Well, it was nice while it lasted, but Kim's Club at Madu station has quit carrying coconuts. I even called free translation to query the vegetable guy about when they would get them in again.
Never, he says, because Koreans don't like coconuts. Fair enough. Fresh coconuts aren't commonly available back where I'm from (Seattle) either. But I have become a regular everyday eater of fresh coconut but now will probably have to give that habit up.
Kim's Club was the only place around here that knew how to properly take care of coconuts. They individually wrapped them in plastic wrap and kept them refrigerated. It was the refrigeration that was key, I believe.
All the other non-refrigerating vendors sell coconuts with about 20% of them being rotten when you open them up.
So, looks like my fresh coconut eating days are over for now.
If any of you go by another Kim's Club (other than the Madu branch) would you please look and see if they still have coconut? Probably they won't but if they do, I would gladly travel to get some. Or, if you know of any other vendor who refrigerates their coconut that would be great to hear about. Thanks.
One place that I've gotten some really good-priced foods and supplements (including Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil) is iHerb.com in Calif. I heard about them here on Dave's. They even have super quick delivery to Korea (5 days) and very good shipping rates through a local Korean shipping company named CJ GLS.
To anyone who hasn't tried them yet, you can get $5 off your first order with them if you use this code: COC920.
Cheers. |
