Hello all:

I'm starting to think that a TV Tuner card for my PC would be a good idea since our TV is in our bedroom and that means I can't watch any TV after my daughter goes to bed. I'd like to be able to record some shows now and then to watch later, especially sports.

I have Qook IPTV and was hoping someone on here has done something similar and they can share their experiences. I know I'll need a tuner card, connect to the box, etc. But what about specific cards? set-ups? tips?

Before anyone asks...I'M NOT GOING TO SHARE ANYTHING. I'm basically hoping to use this like a DVR.

Thanks for any advice.

I'm not an expert on this, but I think that with IPTV you might be out of luck in this regard. TV tuners actually have the ATSC/NTSC/QAM/whatever tuners in them, so they can receive actual cable broadcasts over coaxial cable. With IPTV, though, you're actually getting your TV over your Internet connection, so you don't do tuning in the same way.

Of course, you could still probably pass the output of your IPTV box into a computer TV tuner card over coaxial and schedule recordings on your computer, but you would have to manually change the channel on your IPTV tuner box.

I could be wrong, though. It really depends on the kind of setup you have. It has been a while since I looked into this sort of thing, too. If you can't get a DVR setup via computer capture card, then I would look into getting DVR service from your provider. I have to assume that they provide it (although it often isn't as good as using a homebuilt dedicated system).
