|
|
I returned home from SK in March 2010. I am considering going back but am concerned because of all the news of tension between NK and SK. I know when I was living there that there was no fear at all and no one seemed to worry. So, is it so exaggerated here in Canada/US that there really is no need to be concerned or do some of you living in South Korea feel a little bit of concern?
I am looking for honest answers, no jokes. Thanks |

Everyday I live in fear. When I hear a loud bang I jump. When the bongo trucks drive down the street blasting random Korean I fear that the North are coming and this is the early warning system. Stay home and tell all your friends the same, $2000 a month is not worth all of this. |

Yes, North Korea is definitely going to attack any day now. Tell your friends not to come. Make sure you tell everyone you know not to teach in Korea, even if (especially if) they're applying for a good job. |

I don't think you should come it's too dangerous. I'll tell you what I mention it to your school for you. What's it's name and where is it? |

The north has said it will annihilate the south in a nuclear holocaust.
Same as before. Nothing new and nothing exciting.
I think you have been watching too much CNN.

Thanks for all the jokes guys. I realize that there wouldn't be a ton of foreign teachers there if there was real danger. But is there a lot of news and commotion about it like we're hearing here? I guess I am asking... is it really as big of a deal as the Canadian papers make it out to be? |

I went to a restaurant for dinner. It was packed full of Koreans going on with their daily business. I came to school. It was packed full of Koreans going on with their daily business. |

If I could leave Korea I would but 6 months ago all schools put tracking/shocking devices on all teachers. If you leave your Gu area you get one hell of a electrical shock. This was to eliminate midnight runs and to keep the teachers here while the government trains their robot teacher to replace us. The government said that the only thing that can withstand a nuclear war was kimchi and English robot teachers. So the foreigners are very useless now. |

It's one of many possible risks. How willing are you? Nothing will happen until a surprise freak emergency event were to happen such as a far fetched sounding thing like Seoul bombed out. It seems far fetched and downright silly to even say Seoul could be bombed out or something extreme like that, but it can be the case. Accidents no wants do happen like how history repeats itself and I do believe it's not a matter of if, but a matter of when they will have a retarded tragic accident with their other half. Usually when tensions rise before a war, it ends in a bloody show down at some point later on down the road unless they can make amends and get past their differences. It's clear Korea is not moving forward past the differences, but the process of tension leading to war can take decades and sometimes centuries before actually blowing up as an unexpected accident. I hope to never see it and honestly hope it doesn't happen, but it will at some point in time. |

I also heard they were going to duct tape English teachers to military tanks, jets, etc. so we'd insulate them against enemy fire. |

I heard they would actually drop foreign teachers (aka AIDS bombs) from jets on North Korea. |

That won't work, we are all druggies and will be to high and just float away. But having AIDS is true, maybe they can just let at stand at the DMZ and give the N.Korea AIDS by breathing the same air. |
