I'm going to be in SE Asia for a few months. I'm flying into Hanoi from Korea, then traveling overland to Cambodia, Laos and Thailand.

Does traveling overland present a problem in terms of a visa? More specifically, do I need an onward ticket, etc? I was planning on just getting a flight back to America from Bangkok whilst there, rather than getting a ticket far in advance.

I assume you might be flying Korean Air. When I flew Korean Air they demanded that I have an onward ticket or they would not let me on the plane. I had to buy a ticket at the last minute over the internet from Singapore Airlines. If you are flying Korean Air or maybe even Asiana, switch to another airline. Other Airlines (China Air Thai Air) only make you sign waivers that they are not responsible if you are denied entry.

I have never been denied entry to a SE Asian Country because I didn't have an onward ticket and I have been to quite a few over a 10 year period.

I'm flying Vietnam Airlines.

Trying to keep the whole trip as flexible and cost efficient as possible, so overland travel is the natural choice. I'd just hate to suddenly need to buy a ticket that I don't want anyway.

I did overland into Laos and Vietnam without onward travel, no problem. I flew into Thailand without onward travel, also no problem. They're used to people doing this.
