Right I've got the warning letter now so I'm pretty sure I'm on my way out, my supervisor was utterly unhelpful when asked what I need to do to rectify the 'glaring problems' in my teaching manner. So does anyone have a job that they need to fill ASAP. I'm pretty confident of getting my release paperwork and will work for going rate (1.7 upwards depending on hours) I've been teaching here for 3 months and have 18 months of teaching experience back home. Please PM me with details of any jobs. |

Um, unless you're a child molester, your going rate should be more than 1.7 |

No-pe no child molestation just I really don't want to have to go home to cold wet dreary England after such a short period. As a result I am happy to lose the 100,000 a month if the job is right. So anyone have a job..... |

Umm... I'd still think with experience of any kind you could be making at least 2.0 |

Nobody should accept less than 2.0, but your age and nationality would be a factor. |

22 English, as I say I would love 2.0 but really want to stay in Korea as I have yet to do any of the things that I wanted to do on this trip. Bottom line is I took a paycut to be here anyway so given the choice of an awesome job for 1.7 or a crappy one (like my current job) for 2.0 I'll take the good one. |

You're 22 with a year and a half of teaching experience in your home country. Do you also have a teaching degree? Even if you don't, you're still selling yourself way short IMHO.
You're 22, you're in Korea already, you have teaching experience, you're pure gold here so don't you dare sell yourself short by settling for 1.7. With a name like "Bunnymonster" can I also safely assume that you're a woman (even bigger advantage in the job market here)?
You may deal with a bit of BS for not being North American but don't let that slow you down. Keep knocking on doors and you should find something right quick. |

nope actually quite a tall guy (it came from my rugby club having a surplus of Pauls), worked for a franchised private education company in the UK specialising in remidial english and maths and also (my personal speciality) preparing people for school entrance exams. I'm an economics graduate though so I am not particularly well qualified to teach beyond my previous 'form'. As I say I'm not here for the money and just want to cast my net as wide as possible because I know if I end up back home I won't return to Korea which would be a shame as I've made a few good friends here and invested time and effort in learning some Korean etc...

Thanks for the clarification. Even still, you should be asking for 2.0 just by virtue of being a qualified native speaker that is already in Korea. Anything on top of that (such as your prior experience) is just icing on the cake. |

beggars can't be choosers and at the moment I'm prepared to consider whatever is out there. 2mill would be nice but as an Economist to increase demand for me I must lower the price being asked. So how about it who's got the jobs. Who else should I be pimping myself to at the moment, I probably have at least anohr month before they will finally push me out th door but I think I'll be back home inside 6 weeks unless I find something else soon. |

If they've given you a warning letter and haven't really been too keen on helping you fix the situation... I'd say yes, they are preping you for dismissal. May not have anything to do with you though. Maybe they just need to save some money? /shrug. In any case, sounds like they are getting ready to fire ya. At this time they are probably watching you like a hawk for any excuse to let you go =\ |

Stick to English teaching then until you look up elastic and inelastic demand ...
just kidding. Seriously, go out looking for 2 million. You could probably get more but 2 should be decent. Start talking to schools and recruiters if you have to, but if you're already in Seoul (as countless of other people here have told you), you're in really good shape. If you find a place that's hiring, then you can show up for work naked or whatever you want to do to get yourself canned.
Ask around about the visa implications of getting fired, first. |

How does one get to be 22 with a year and a half of (full-time?) teaching experience as well as a degree? Either you were a child prodigy, or something doesn't add up. |
