So, today I got around to finally asking how many total students my hagwon has... the answer was a rather dissappointing 100 or so... given that we have 4 full time Koreans and me, that's not really alot to cover expenses and salaries and what not. Then I asked what monthly tuition was... at first I thought I heard wrong, so I got her to write it down for me. 1,000,000 won per month. Holy hell. There is alot of money going around that place and it sure as hell ain't going to me or the teachers. My boss is raking in mad dough... no wonder she has 3 cars for a family that only has two drivers. |

Hmm. There's a really good book called "The Koreans" by Micheal Breen. He says that traditionaly, Korean busnisess keep 3 sets of books. One for the tax department, one for apperance sake, and one real set.
I wouldn't believe either number your boss told you. I work at a better-than-average hagwon, and it charges 150 - 200 000 won per month per kid. |

Ditto. I work at one that hires only certified teachers, pays us all better than average, provides us with single housing, offers a comprehensive curriculum (phonics, writing, grammar, speaking, listening, etc.), plus provides more resources than you can shake a stick at, and our rates are in the W200,000-W260,000 range. Granted, we're out in the middle of nowhere, but still ... |

My place is really good too, and the students get 1 hours of chinese, 1 hour of me, and one hour of grammer with the korean teacher and we charge 280,000 won.
I think your director was mistaken. |

It wasn't my director, it was the Korean teacher.
The kids get 5 hours of class a day... 2 hours math, 1 hour science, 1 hour social studies, and 1 hour English... I dunno. Yeah, it doesn't seem right to me... but I am curious now. |

1,000,000 is possible for the kindergarten students. There is probably a different charge for those who only go 3 hours per week, if that possibility exists at that school. So are there 100 students who are there most of the day. If so, then the owner is making bank. |
