|
|
(probably a dumb question) I will be going to SK after my contract elsewhere is up and I was wondering if anyone has ever used these Visa or MC cards. (basically, I don't want to open a bank account in the US again and thought this would be a good way to avoid carrying too much cash)
Oh yeah, I tried calling- this forum seems quicker! thanks for any help! |

You can't. Just use your US bank card. |

Thanks for the reply. I have to say I'm disappointed; you'd think visa/mc would be fairly universal. Oh, well.... |

They are, Visa and Mastercard aren't the problem, it's that the prepaid cards are in USD and say right on them that you can only use them in the States. |

That doesn't sound right.
I've had some Canadian pre-paid gift VISA cards sent to me as presents, and they have worked fine in Korea. If the currency is not in CDN$, there is a 2% conversion fee. |

This doesn't sound right. They have a logo, therefore they should work just like a regular credit card.
Speaking of which, does anyone have the Paypal MC Debit? i can't figure out how to put money on it. |

I found an old card that doesn't say aything on about "only for USA".
I guess I assumed these cards were simply another form of liquidity since you can use them as cash (in the states). In any case, the more I think about it; I'll just bring cash... Going to be awhile anyway.
Maybe northway has seen more current cards than I have or it's in fine print on the package. |

BTW, eb, I noticed an older thread that addressed the "paypal" issue. I'm new and am not sure how to post a link but it wan't long ago. Hope that helps. |

I used a Visa prepaid sent from the US at the local SK mini-stop with no problem. I wasn't sure it would work, but it did. Not sure about other places though. |
