Is it true that you must pay php1620 when leaving the Philippines to go back to Korea?

I remember it being about $20 and I just found it listed at 750 pesos, so I think that's accurate. That said, I think there may be a separate airport fee tacked on to that if you're flying out of Manila. I don't think the same fee applies if you're flying out of Clark.

depends:

a) if you are a Filipino then you pay the p1620 AND the airport departure fee (p750 from MNL, p550 from CEB).

b) if you have been in the Philippines for MORE THAN 1 (consecutive time) year you pay the p1620 + airport fees.

c) if you are a "registered", "resident" foreigner (in the Philippines - 13a visa etc.) you pay the p1620 + airport fees.

d) if you are NOT Filipino then you only pay the airport fee and NOT the p1620 departure fee.

Each airport has a different fee.

Manila is 750, Cebu is 550, Kalibo is 40, Tagbiliran is 20, others, I am not sure. Oh yes, Manila is 200 pesos for a domestic flight.

The p1620 (as queried in the original post) is NOT an airport (terminal) fee.

It is a departure fee and it does NOT apply to "short time foreigners, balikbayans and tourists." It DOES apply to long term visitors (over 1 year, registered foreigners and Philippine citizens who do NOT hold permanent residence in another country).

The airport fees are different and separate from the departure fee (pay at different places).

Airport fees (locally called terminal fees) vary from airport to airport and between domestic and international flights.

As noted above, INTERNATIONAL terminal fees (for ALL passengers) are:
MNL-p750
CEB-p550

and DOMESTIC terminal fees (for ALL passengers) vary widely from as low as p20 (Tagbilaran, Camiguin, Siragao) to p100 in CEB and CLARK to as much as p200 in MNL.

depending on where you're flying from, you might have to pay twice. i flew cebu>manila (550 pesos because it being domestic) and then manila>vietnam (750 pesos because it being international). i thought i only had to pay one airport tax, got rid of all my pesos, and then almost missed my flight due to having to wait for the currency exchange counter to re-open. check flight details.

i know my second flight was to vietnam but if you have a layover in manila from another part of the philippines, expect to pay twice before heading back to korea. same thing happened to my friends flying cebu>manila>busan.

um... NO.

The terminal fee in CEB is for domestic flights is only p100 (not p550).

p550 is for flights out of the international terminal in CEB (and flying directly abroad - NOT to a destination or stopover within the Philippines).

You DO pay the (appropriate) terminal fee for each leg of your flight
(eg: p100 for CEB-MNL (in Cebu) then p750 for MNL to ICN (in Manila)) at each originating airport.

They will accept pesos or US$.
