I've been working at my hagwon (Avalon English) for about 9 months now and it has been going pretty well. My only complaint is that my boss can be a bit lazy sometimes. Aside from that, it's much better than my last hagwon job, which was so bad it lasted all of 3 months. In recent months, however, my friends at public schools have really been trying to convince me to switch and teach at a public school. When I listen to how little they actually have to teach and how much vacation time they get, it seems really enticing.

Right now I'm looking at my options for when my contract ends. I can easily get another job in a different city with Avalon (Bundang, near Seoul, or Haeundae in Busan), and I'd be able to get a raise. Or, I can take my chances with one of the government programs and potentially end up somewhere not so nice or interesting teaching at a public school. I prefer to work late, but it's not terribly important. I'd rather work 4 teaching hours a day than 6. I would certainly enjoy the vacation time.

So what would you do? Is there any way to choose your location for public schools? If I could choose my location, then I would definitely go public school if I found an adequate place.

I made the jump from private to public last year. It's all a crap shoot really. There are some things that I really like about private and some things that I really like about public. If you get the chance I'd say go for it just keep in mind the actual day to day job is different.
