Hyundai Motor announced Thursday that its Equus luxury sedan has been picked as one of the 10 newest cars of 2011 by Kelley Blue Book, a popular car-buying guide in the U.S.

Congratulations on your new car, Hyundai!

I've always wondered if they get paid for some of their "news" articles.

On a side note about the Equus. . . Personally I think Hyundai screwed up the introduction of this car to the U.S.

- the all-important reclining rear passenger seat in the Ultimate version is strictly for midgets

- everyone knows the 5.0 V8 with 8 speed transmission is coming out next year

- they priced it too high relative to the street price of the Lexus LS460. Hell, it's priced too high relative to the V8 Genesis which has the exact same engine/transmission for $25,000 less

I like this piece on the delivery drivers:

Imagine how much safer driving would be if they would stop "breaking" the traffic lights.

Here's the story. A fine example of written Konglish.

A job as a food carrier or a deliveryman in Seoul, South Korea, means work against the clock for precisely the time of delivery. No matter whether they break the traffics or use the pavements, the important one is they reach the time target.

As quoted from page Los Angeles Times, Wednesday, December 29, 2010, the streets of Seoul in every hour is always passed by the carrier of food by using the motorbike. They appear most often break the red lights and pedestrians know what to do when they meet the food carriers, aside.

I do not mind to break the traffic light, but when you know the customer continues to watch and wait, it is very hard to not break the traffic lights. If I was in the motor, the pressure is huge and I have to be someone else, said Bang Chang-min, one of the carrier of food.

In South Korea, all types of food advertised include a fast delivery service. It is ranging from burgers, fried chicken, until the daily groceries. The deliveryman use a motorbike with a large box behind it, they even must be willing to driving with one hand while the other hand brings the goods.

Some pizza restaurants provide delivery target of a maximum of 30 minutes, if the target missed, the customer then do not need to pay it. And then, the bills will be addressed to the deliveryman. The countdown begins when an order is received, it gives more pressure to the deliverymen that is mostly taken by young people, said a youth activist, Kim Young-Kyung.

The company trains new employees with all methods including traffic violation for the sake of timeliness, Kim added.

High speed and pressure contained in the delivery of food in Seoul are fatal. Last week, a 20 years old pizza deliveryman was reported killed by a taxi. On the same day, another deliveryman injured after got a hit by a bus.

According to government reports, in the last five years there were 4.098 accidents of pizza deliverymen. Last year, there were 1.395 accidents of pizza deliveryman. Most victims get injuries, but death rates until now have reached tens of numbers. South Korean Government begins a television campaign and distributes leaflets that emphasize the high number of accidents on food delivery officer. The activists also have been aggressively campaigning and protest by carrying posters that read 30 minutes delivery system to kill a man.

The point is that it's not an accolade or award. KBB is just running down some new cars entering the American market, while the ol' Chosun is treating it like another victory for the Korean industrial machine. (though, in some small way, I suppose it is - hence my congratulations at the end of my OP)

I think they instinctively imagined the word 'best' into the KBB headline - as in: 10 best new cars of 2011.

What? No respect for the Korea Times? Look at this hard hitting news story.

Is this an alien or octopus?

I sometimes use the various Korean rags to teach editing skills to my writing classes.

You'd be amazed at how many mistakes a 2nd year uni student can find in a piece supposedly written by the pros when you dangle an A in front of their noses.

All the English papers in Korea, all, are mercantilist P0rn, and cultural masterbatory pieces.
