There are holidays in England where you get to stay in a stately home for a weekend and participate in a mock murder scenario. You take part in an Agatha Christie-type drama.
They last for a weekend.
You arrive at a hotel, meet fellow guests, a person will pretend to die, and there are paid actors that play various roles. People pretending to be police will arrive at the scene of the crime. As a guest, you get to ask fellow guests detailed questions to discover the identity of the murderer.
The actors will answer your questions truthfully and act in character for the entire weekend.
At the end, whoever guesses the identity of the murderer wins something.
I am interested in this, because there must be countless opportunities for humour. You could ask fellow guests absurd questions just to see how they'd respond. You could even pretend to be the 'murderer' yourself for the fun of it.
Not long ago, I tried out an interactive live action horror show near the London Eye exhibit, in London (of course). It wasn't particularly frightening. You'd go through a guided tour with a 'doctor' and he'd show you various monster patients.
The frightening bits were when various zombies would reach out for you during the tour. It was hilarious because at one point a zombie stops right next to the group of visitors. One zombie had a Tesco (British supermarket) bag. I asked him why he shopped there.
He replied, 'I only wanted the clubcard.' (Tesco Clubcard is the loyalty card of Tesco, the UK's largest retailer)
I was in hysterics, the tour was very short, but extremely enjoyable. I suspect a murder weekend would be even better.
There would be many opportunities to be totally stupid and absurd.
What do you think? |

My friend was an actress in a murder on a train interactive mystery play for a few months. She had a blast and I know they routinely sold out.
I did a season of Tony and Tina's Wedding when I was 18. (Interactive play, but not a murder mystery.) It was hilarious because we had to keep in character even after the show. So when the audience (wedding guests) were setting to leave, they'd always want to talk to you out of character and they would probe and probe. I felt so devilish acting all confused like they were insane.
Anyway, nothing to say other than that would be a ton of fun to attend for a whole weekend. Hopefully they feed you well. |
