Hi,
I am presently apartment sitting for a friend. He has Internet, but I can't access it with the browser on my computer. (He took his with him.) My Vonage phone works fine, and Yahoo messenger seems to work OK, but no browser web surfing is possible. The OS diagnostics say the connection is fine.
I had a similar problem last year and a K-tel tech had to come by and load a certificate in my PC. I am not doing anything illegal, I just want to avoid using whatever security they imposing here.
If the bandwith is paid why do I need them to mess with my PC?
Any ideas?
I have tried using a different DNS without success.
If they are blocking port 80, can I switch this?
and if so, how? (I tried doing that last year unsuccsesfully. I do have a Linksys router.)
Suggestions please! |

Qook requires a log-in ID and password. |

Maybe.
When I got mine they gave me the login info, but it never worked.
The tech put the security certificate in the "shared file" and that was that. (The tech didn't speak English, so a conversation about solutions to the problem wasn't possible.)
I needed the certificate, not the login info.
I would prefer to bypass the whole system if possible: VPN perhaps.
In addition to being a pain in the @$$, I would also don't want to be bothered when they are performing maintenence on the DNS.
So if anyone know how to do this, please advise. |

I have Qook, and yeah you need the login and password info to use it on a different computer. I had my router clone my computers MAC address, so i don't have to retype the login info whenever i change computers.
VPN Will work though. I know this because there was a short while when I didn't pay my internet bill and I noticed that Messenger would work, but Web browsing wouldn't. They only restrict access to web browsing, but if you have a good VPN, you can access the web again. |

Got up this morning, turned on the computer and my Qook login information no longer works. It reads "user not registered" or something along those lines in Korea. Any idea why this would happen all of sudden?
I can access the Internet now only with the VPN, which is annoying. |
