I've sometimes read on these boards about how Gangnam was just farmland 40 years ago. I found it hard to believe and thought it was just a bit of an exaggeration. However, I stumbled across this exhibition about the development of Gangnam at the Seoul Museum of History. The whole area south of the river basically was just farmland with a few scattered villages until 1970 when they started to develop the area along the river, where Apgujeong is now.
The exhibition is really interesting if you're into urban development and Korean history. There's also a massive scale model of Seoul city which is really impressive.
Location: Seoul Museum of History http://www.museum.seoul.kr/eng/eh_main.jsp between Gwanghwamun and Seodaemun stations on line 5. When I went there on a Sunday, it was all free. |

It's actually mostly in Korean but if you bring a dictionary you should be able to make out most of what is meant. |
