I have been browsing around and there seem to be quite a few of these out there and the 100 hour certification seems to be ranging around 250-300 USD. I was wondering if anyone here has been through one of these programs and which could be best recommended. Also, I know this can raise my salary but will that always be the case? Did this help your teaching out quite a bit? I think this is something I am going to do but I was just looking for some feedback on this (and many other) facets of this process.

Also, a good site for Hagwon reviews? Recruiter reviews? This is my first time teaching and I would like to be eased into the situation as I do not want to be overburdened and cause a problem at my first job. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

I've see a few claim that qualifications over your basic B.A. might be a hindrance for regular jobs there. I can't speak to how accurate that is though.

I don't think an online cert would help that much. Most in-class TESOL certs give you some sort of practicum which is what really helps you put what you learn into practice.

Well i did my TESOL with Teach International in Australia. It was a 310 hour certificate and it did cost a fair bit. I decided to go down that road so I could have better chances of getting an ESL job once I decide to return back home to Australia.

I was told that some TEFL / TESOL certificates from companies like i to i e.t.c are ok but you can't really use them when you come back home.

The certificate that I did TESOL IV is recognised by the Australian government.

Right, I believe I need to find one that at least carry some weight in the U.S. though I don't believe I can teach anywhere unless I do have a Masters, or at least that is how the ESL at my home college worked.
