I assume there are more positions during the start of each new term? but can you still apply for public schools mid-term? Also when are the best recruiting months?

Looking at the job board I would say yes. At least there is a bunch there right now.

not all PS contracts begin/expire at the beginning of each semester, it all depends how it went when they received their first NET.

combine that with runners and you have a small percentage of schools that hire year round, though perhaps not in locations that might interest you.

Also I would think that the schools that *are* hiring mid-term will want you to start right away with no training, given that their previous NET probably jumped ship.

I just started a PS position bc the other teacher got really sick and had to leave. I have ZERO training and no one at my school speaks more than 10 words of English so I have no idea what's going on or what material I'm supposed to teach the children. I'm having a wonderfully awesome time...<dripping with sarcasm> Be careful with PS's...like all hagwan positions they are a crap shoot. Good luck. Confused

"training"?

I was teaching the day after I got off the plane. What 'training' do you refer to? 99% of PS jobs there is no "training", it happens on the job. Once you're on the job there may be some POE orientations you go to (like GEPIK) which will give you some "training", but it almost never happens prior to your starting.

and yes. I started "mid term".

but I know of no "training" for people who start Mar 2, for e.g.

I have worked at hagwons and public schools, all at off times. In a way I think it is better to do this way. If a school has a lot of teachers applying for March or September, they can not only be more selective but give less information. In April or October, they need a teacher and they will be more willing to answer your questions.

Public School Native English Teachers leave thier jobs at all times of the year and there has to be replacements. So recruiters are typically looking for people at all times of the year. When I was hired, It was in April.

Individual public schools may hire at any time of the year.
They will usually use a recruiter and prefer to hire someone who is in Korea if they can.

The public school recruitment programs (EPIK, GEPIK, etc.) have 2 major recruitment drives:
1) Oct - Jan for positions starting in Feb-March.
2) March-June for positions starting in Aug-Sept.

Their largest recruitment drive is mid term for late August starts (typically about 1000 positions for each program)

They have a smaller recruitment drive for the beginning of term (March starts) and typically look for about 400-600 placements for each program.

Thank you very much. I guess I will start applying June time then. The paper work they need (references, criminal checks) are within a 6 month time stamp right?
