I have a CRC from the RCMP (canada) here form 6 months ago when I was considering working in SK. I'm thinking again about it, and am wondering if my CRC is still valid or if I would need a new one

Depends on who is accepting the CRC. Some agencies might have a 6 months expiration date on it, while others have 1-2 years. Ask the agency accepting the CRC.

Korean immigration will accept it up to 6 months from date of issue.

If it goes beyond that you will need to get a new one.

Another question: Which RCMP CRC should I be getting? There's..

Regular name check (no fignerprints) ($25)

Check with fingerprints ($70)

And when I asked, the guy said neither included a vulnerable section check

Check with prints. VSS is NOT required.

Do you have to wait until you apply for a new visa (or a renewal) before you can give Immigration the background check, or can you do it in advance? I mean, should an American put off getting an FBI CBC until they're within 6 months of getting a new visa (or renewing)?

I would think you can go to immi and turn it in to them as soon as you get it. That's what I plan to do, since I just got mine from the fBI after a 3 month wait, and now I will be sending it to the DOS this week. Someone I work with renewed without these new docs, so I plan to renew, then turn it in asap. My CBC expires in May, so by turning it in, I won't have to bother with it for 2012. I do plan to ask for a receipt saying I turned it in to them. I don't want 2012 to roll around and have them say I never gave it to them when I did. Plus, I do wonder will they really keep stuff on file this time???
