Netflix doesn't work here, because we are out of region. I tend to watch stuff on megavideo now which is a lot like youtube but people can post long things. |

You can use it with a VPN connection that makes it look like your PC is in the US. I use strongvpn.com. It costs a little but there is no software so I trust it. |

I use Netflix, but not the Watch it Now. It takes a couple of days for the movies to come by mail. |

If he is military he can. All my military friends do it. Which I don't understand why you would order netflix when you can download a movie in a matter of minutes. |

I stand corrected. I didnt think of the miltary angle. And I also dont understand US army guys on this board saying "you can buy this, you can do that in Korea" when people living solely on the economy with out base access can't do those things. |

I also use a VPN to watch instant netflix. I have strange tastes when it comes to movies and can't always find what I want to watch through torrents so that is why I have a membership. |

You could switch to Apple TV/Itunes Store. Your purchases/rentals work here. |

You don't understand why someone would rent a video legally and not pirate it? You should moved to China with that attitude. |

Right. Because all those guys selling DVD's in every subway station have nothing to do with pirated movies. |

Hollywood makes plenty of money.
back in the 80's when everyone had a tape deck(ghetto blaster)
I mean who didn't have a blank tape ready in the deck to press record when the dj said your favorite song is next..
or twin deck stereos so your friend would buy a tape and then you would dub it?
two video players...
all that stuff.. pirating is here for ever. hollywood knows this..
they are just angry that it's much easier than before now with the internet
they still make PLENTY of money.they always have...and they always will. |

I cant totally blame people (especially foreigners) in Korea for illegally downloading movie and tv shows. US studios havent made it easy for us to get content here, and internet speeds are amazingly fast.
However, your rationalization of "they make so much money already, I'm not doing any harm" is a little weak.
Illegal downloading of movies has cost the industry (studios, video stores, movie theaters) millions of dollars and that red ink gets passed down. You probably think you're taking money out of some fat-cat, studio exec's pocket and that they wont miss it. The truth is the cut is coming at the local level.
You're also making it harder for studios to finance the small, independent films that might have more meaningful content. Studios pay the bills with tentpoles (blockbusters), not those quiet films that get released every winter for awards season. But...if you're happy with being stuck with movies like the recent "Green Hornet" remake, then by all means, piratebay away.
Netflix is only $8 a month (you cant spare $8?) and you can get a VPN for as little as $40 for the year (shop around though, not all VPNs are equal). This allows you to use Netflix or other sites like Hulu. Or you can use Hotspot Shield. Their free VPN has been working great with Netflix and Hulu lately.
And no, I'm not a bitter, failed "industry wannabe" here teaching ESL. I just think it sucks for people to work on something, be it a book, painting, song, etc...and not get paid for the work they put into it. |

I lived in China for two years. I am quite happy in Korea illegally downloading my reality tv shows. Thank you for your concern. |
