What are some useful or awesome Android apps you've got on your phone here in Korea?
I myself actually just picked up my first smart phone (yay, welcome to the 21st century) and am going a bit app crazy at the moment. But I'm finding a lot of apps my friends have back home aren't of much use here. Foursquare for instance, is huge back home. Everyone is always checking in where they went to eat or are shopping or whatever. Yet I downloaded it and none of my friends in Korea are on it. Waste of space.
However, the bar code scanner is still mega useful. This one the Koreans really jumped all over. Also the google translator is nice in a pinch.
Can you list anymore? |

I have one called "Korean Translate"
It's got a voice option where you can speak a complete sentence in English and it will poop out a (nearly complete) sentence in Korean. It won't speak the Korean, but you can then show your phone to the Korean you wish to speak to. You can also email/ send a message of the pooped out Korean.
It doesn't do honorifics, so if you're talking to or messaging an older person they might get offended by your lack of ~imnida or -yo |

| Vlingo...simply awesome. I don't know what phones it will work with, but with my Samsung Galaxy S it is amazing. You can pretty much set it up to run your phone hands free. I especially like being able to use my voice to make text messages instead of typing them. It's incredibly accurate. |

imo just google "top android apps" and you'll get lots of choice with explanation on what apps do.
we all use different stuff anyway
there is an earlier post on the board with useful Korean apps for Galaxy (look up my name, it's a post from 2-3 months back)
also, to comment on another previous post, google translate does an amazing job of translating to/from Korean and 20+ other languages, so you really just need ONE translator app and google translate is absolutely amazing in my opinion.
other things that I think are a must:
z4root=One Click Lag Fix -> this should be a priority once you install Froyo. it will dramatically improve the performance of your phone making it 2-3 times faster and get rid of any lag that you experience now.
it's safe and can be easily undone, so there's no risk as far as I'm aware
Kakaotalk - free SMS that is used by a lot of people in Korea. it will automatically add your contacts to the list, too
Music Downloadeder Pro - free music downloaded and has a huge selection of Korean pop as well. not sure if it's legal though, probably not
Pocket Legends/Dungeon Defenders - really cool iphone/android MMO games. both are free I believe
Aldiko/Laputa - awesome book readers
A Online Radio - a huge selection of radio stations from around the world. Ze Radio is also good, but less selection. streams music over 3g. not having to download music at all is good sometimes
barcode scanner, Eggmon - useful for checking prices/finding out more about what you just ate/drank and how much it costs. also scans Qrcodes, which are ubiquitous nowadays
My Market - market alternative with games and other stuff |

If you're into emulators on your Android phone..try Wii IME. It's $3.99 from the market, but there is a free version as well.
It allows you to connect a Wii controller to your phone through Bluetooth.
Sadly, it doesn't work on the Galaxy phones. I'm hoping this is an issue that's resolved soon, but i'm not holding my breath. |
