|
|
Hello, Extremely new to this forum (and country).
So basically, I need a gym. Badly.
I'm from Aus where it's constantly sunny and hot (good for an outside jog) and had a treadmill (for those rare rainy days).
Im now in Gangnam, where running will probably end your life because of the amount of snow/ice/mud.
Does anyone know of a good, simple, not overpriced gym? Just something to run in and keep fit.
I've seen a few but dont know anything about them, nor do I have the speaking capabilities to do so.
Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Gangnam is pretty big. I would state which "Dong" and "Gu" you are located. |

I'm interested in this as well. I'm in gangnam and I've seen a world gym and bally's near the seoullung stop but they both look pretty ritzy (haven't checked out prices). I'm used to the $20/month, no hassle, 24 hour fitness' back home. Anywys, I'm going stir crazy. I'm either at class or hibernating from the cold -- definitely need some stair master action. |

There is a nice gym in Coex (Samsung Station) but it's super pricey, like 140,000 won a month. It has spin classes, nice change rooms and good machines. Also has wireless if you want to play on your ipod on a bike or something.
I used to go to the gym in the building right above Daecheong Station. It's about 110,000 won a month. I've never seen a lower price! |

you must have a really generous outlook. I've had a membership at a half a dozen gym and the one in COEX is no better than any of them and twice as expensive, |

multiply that price by 3 for a cheap gym and divide the quality of gym you remember from back home by the same amount. |

First off, gym prices in Gangnam will be a lot more expensive than what you are used to.
If you're near Gangnam station off exit #3 (near the Bengbeng Intersection), there's a Fitness Clinic gym that costs 140,000/month or ~80,000/month if you sign up for 6 months (need to pay upfront). The gym is new and very clean but a bit small. |

Between Sinsa and Nonhyeon station there's a Crossfit gym. I haven't gone in to ask about fees but I've been meaning to. |

Healthbox between Nonhyeon and Sinnonhyeon Stations (Next to Outback, 4th floor of the Recycle City building) is 120,000 for three months, and isn't shiny or fashionable, and gets crowded, but has a squat rack and enough free weights and machines for the average person. |

Yeah, you really need to be more specific than "Gangnam". Do you mean near Gangnam Station? Or just somewhere in the Gu?
I go to X-fitness, in Daechi4dong (in the same block as Lotte Dept Store). It's 150,000W for 3 months, but is pretty small and has no classes. It has 6 treadmills, 2 cross trainers, one stair climber, I think 2 or 3 bikes, and a range of free weights and weight machines. Unfortunately, the owner is obsessed with those vibration machines, and has removed useful equipment to put in two of them. After over a year doing without, they have just employed a guy who can speak English well, which is nice, though the others always do their best to communicate in English.
A guy I know who used to go to X-fitness said that he had started going to a gym across the road from Lotte (in the same block as Emart, but close to Hanti Station). He said it was the same price as X-fitness, but bigger, and I think he said it had classes. I haven't checked it out yet.
My friend goes to a gym across the road from the Renaissance Hotel in Yeoksam. It's on the north side of Teheran road, fairly close to the Hotel intersection. I haven't been in there, but it sounds like it's pretty big, and it's the same price as my gym. If I lived closer to it I would join it.
Hope that helps, but again, post where you live exactly to get a more useful answer. |

I'm in the center of Gangnam, right around Gangnam-gu Office. So anything from the center to the north of Gangnam is good.
Except for those 140,000 a month gyms. I'm not a rich Gangnamian.
The one above recycle city I've heard is alright, so I might check it out.
Ill try some of those gyms that you guys recommended sometime this week.
Hopefully i'll be able to find a good one.
Thanks Everyone, You've been a big help! |

Yeah, so I found the 1st Gym on google maps. I think I also found the one your friend started going to, though I might be wrong.
I went on the website, and it looks pretty big... but its in korean?... the site is dyfitness.com
Its close to the e-mart which is really convient coz I know a bus that stops directly outside it.
Does anyone know how to translate the site? i think it might be broken coz I cant even see the Korean characters on it :S |

Near Gangnam-gu Office station there is a place called Yes Gym. I paid 500,000 for the year upfront. It's decent, has two floors, older and newer machines, adequate variety of dumbells, and lots of treadmills. It is pretty clean and has a large locker room.
It's above a Wa Bar, if that helps, across from the GNUCR building.
There is also an elementary school in that area that has a community center attached to it. I think it was 700,000 for the year upfront. Can't remember the name of the school, but ask around and someone may point you in the right direction. |
