Hm... I'd get in touch with the recruiter ASAP to find out about which city you'll be going to.
As for the individual cities, just search the forum. There was a good thread on this topic recently. I live in Anyang, which is just OK. Bucheon and Ilsan are a lot better in my experience. |

Gyeonggi is divided between urban and rural areas, as well as north and south, with Seoul in between. Northern Gyeonggi can be very rural and beautiful, though Ilsan is an obvious exception as a wealthy suburb. Southern Gyeonggi is generally urban and not as beautiful. Bundang, Suwon, and Anyang are the more desirable urban areas there, quite close and indistinguishable from Seoul in some ways. |

Ouch... accepting a job without knowing the city.
Though really at the end of the day you'll probably have same/similar experience regardless. |

I think 30% of all English teachers in Korea live in Gyeonggi whereas about 40% live in Seoul which is in the centre of Gyeonggi.
I made those percentages up but I don't think many would disagree with me.
Anyway, your recruiter should really tell you where you'll be working. It's understandable if you're working for GEPIK but if you're just working at a hagwon you ought to know where it is.
I just came over yesterday and I knew exactly where I'd be working. I even checked it out on Daum street view to get to know the area before I arrived. |

If you got a public school job in Gyeonggi then it's probably through GEPIK and since schools hire directly there, you (or your recruiter) should already know where you're going.
That being said, saying you'll be living in Gyeonggi is like saying you'll be living in Texas or New York State. It could be awesome or it could be really crappy as Gyeonggi is huge and ranges from urban to the boonies. If you're near a rail line it will be a lot more enjoyable though.
You really need to get more info from your recruiter. |
