In November, I was back in Canada visiting Korea after a 2 year absence. I attempted to get my CRC the week before I left from the RCMP and they said fine, come back to pick it up in 3 days.

I went to pick it up and the lady working there said there had been some new changes regarding the vulnerable sector search. Starting now she said, everyone has to get their fingerprints rolled and then shipped off to Ottawa for processing by the Canadian Criminal Real Time Service. She noted that it may take 2 months...

Well, the next day I flew back to Seoul on my return ticket and have been staying with a friend. Five weeks later, the lady at the RCMP told me they failed to process my fingerprints because I am working outside the country. Apparently, they will only process the checks if you work in Canada.

I asked what can I do. She said she had no idea. I called Korean immigration, they told me it was between the RCMP and Me.

I have no idea what to do now. It says nothing on the website or the internet about this situation.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do? Or have gone through the same process?

VSS isnt required for a korean visa. As you found out, the RCMP wont provide it for work outside of Canada. That's why kimmi dropped that short-lived requirement only a few months after they started demanding VSS as a part of the CBC.

From what I have been reading, some people have attained their record checks without fingerprints from the RCMP. However, I have read some people registering their fingerprints in Korea and sending them back to Ottawa for the check that may take a long time.

Does anyone know if I can just get a National CBC without fingerprints?

Thanks for your help!
