|
|
This is my first time to Phuket but not to Thailand. I am arriving at the Phuket airport at 11:30 so I would imagine it would be at least midnight before I get into a taxi.
My ultimate destination is Koh Phi Phi but it looks like I'm going to have to stay in Phuket for at least the night.
Has anyone ever arrived this late without a room reservation? I would rather not book anything in advance if I don't have to but not sure if this is possible. Also, since I am just there for the night I would prefer the cheapest place available... anyone have any recommendations?
Any advice is much appreciated. |

There will be touts at the airport ready to take you to the guesthouse that they get commission at, regardless of what time you arrive. No guarantees on cheapest though, but ask around and go with whoever is offering a room in your price range.
Alternately, just find a place on travelfish and contact them to make sure that they have 24 hour check in, then just take a cab. |

You'll want to get a place in Phuket town at the southern end of the island, because that is where your ferry is going to be. The airport is at the northern end of island. Here is a list of places in Phuket town from The Lonely Planet:
On On Hotel, international tel. call: 66-7621-1154 or in Thailand 0-7621-1154
This is the dive hotel featured in the movie "The Beach."
Phucket International Youth Hostel, 66-7628-1325, in Thailand 0-7628-1325 They have dorms.
Talang Guest House, 66-7621-4225, 0-7621-4225
Crystal Inn, 1000 Baht for room, more expensive than the 3 above.
66-7625-6789, if in Thailand 0-7625-6789
Sino House, 2000 baht for room, 66-7622-1398, 07622-1398
Metropole Phucket, 3000 baht for room, 66-7621-5050, 0-7621-5050 |

Thanks for the info... Please keep the recommendations coming.
Any info for Phi Phi? My buddy stayed at the Rock when he traveled through the area and said it was a great place to meet other travelers. Just your basic hostel... super cheap. I don't mind staying at a midrange place but sometimes the hostels are the best places to start... Anyone with any thoughts?
Sorry to switch gears... would still love to hear more recs on Phuket. |

I paid 900 baht for a decent room in Patong. In March. You should aim for a price like that unless you want a little more luxury. |

Taxi fare to Phuket town is going to cost you at least 800 Baht.
Trouble is when you arrive that late they will try to extort even more, and there's not much you can do about it.

Rock Backpacker tel.: 0-7561-2402 [email protected]
dm/rm 350/800 baht
This is recommended by the lonely planet. This is in Tonsai Village where the ferry from Phuket disembarks. This might be the cheapest place you'll find in Ko Phi Phi. It's supposed to be pretty good and clean |
