|
|
I was bored today and toyed around with the idea of making a website that lets people with no Korean skills search google maps in Korea. I created a few categories that users can choose from and a list of cities to search in. I got the idea in the shower after reading Korussian's post.
I'm looking for feedback because I'm unsure of if this could be useful to anybody and don't want to waste my time on improving it if it doesn't fulfill some need.
It's probably worthless to you if you know some Korean. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome, especially from anybody who has any interest in using it. Trolls and people who want to tell me I'm stupid are also welcome.
The url is www.triplefantastic.com (I bought the domain a year ago before I had the idea). |

I think if you can get it to work (I searched my nearest city and google was like "Hey, you meant to search all of Europe, right?") then it could be a really clever site. I find it's a pain to actually type in Korean for something small like a daum search, and rather than switching languages it's faster to copy and paste from wikipedia. If you could extend it so that it covers smaller locations, more search options then it would definitely be worth bookmarking.
Google is good for bus routes, but daum is 100x more useful once you get to know the site. Would it be possible to have your site reference both? |

I'd love to see something that could translate or transcribe the stuff on Google Earth.
I'll check out your map though.
By the way, does Google Maps show bus routes for most Korean cities? |

I have no idea how accurate the timings are, but I can find the routes for my not-even-nearly-a-city-but-they-call-it-that-anyway town. Just get directions between two locations, move the arrows along the blue line as you want and hit the public transport button. It should bring something up if that option is available. |

Thanks for the advice. I added an option to choose between Google and Daum and about 70 more cities.
I still have a few more ideas that I haven't worked into it yet, like adding the different parts of Seoul and other large cities and making it compatible with mobile browsers. |

Cool idea but the window doesn't display properly on my machine (Mac OSX running Firefox). The map frame is not tall enough, it's scrunched up at the top of the browser window. |

I think that's a brilliant idea. However I have tried a couple of cities and I am still just getting it in Korean in both Google and Daum. I live in Geoje city and would love some translation of the things on google maps. |

I don't think there's any way I could get Google or Daum to show the results in English. However, Google categorizes a lot of stuff in English if you go to the "more info" links on the markers. What you said is my main concern; it's still in Korean, so it's still hard to use without knowing any Korean. You might want to check out http://www.wikimapia.com though.
I think I've fixed the issues with Firefox that redaxe mentioned, but it still doesn't work right in Internet Explorer. |

Actually, I was wrong about not being able to give translated results. I've added an option that sends you to a google maps page translated through google translate now. I've also expanded the categories and have included all of the gu in the major cities. |
