Well that about says it all, doesn't it? There's obviously no need for concern.

You probably have need for concern but the rest of us with proper qualifications are pretty safe I reckon. I don't blame you though - if I had a usless business degree and a 100 hour online TEFL certificate, I would be worried about that teaching robot taking away my only chance at employment! Laughing

You know if you start worrying about a robot replacing you - you have automatically lost the game of life. (As well as gaining a place in the dole queue back home!) Razz

Nothing to worry about mate, us northerners and Jocks will always find ways to make money. If it makes the likes of Mortico cry however, it has been a fruitful day on Daves! Laughing

Nah, you can tell Mortico wouldn't be able to find his arse using both hands, a heightened sense of smell and two mirrors! Laughing He is always on here moaning about something making silly posts trying to be clever. Been in Korea five minutes and absolutley hating it which in turn makes me happy! Razz He will soon be back in Nebraska selling hot dogs and hamburgers from the back of a truck on the basis of his fantastic business degree! Laughing

Umm... how is this any different from the way kids have been learning in Korea for the past I don't know how many years?

I'm teaching in the states now after a 3-4 year run in Korea and this story has actually made the news over here. Although a bit depressing, I enjoyed a good laugh with the people I work with as well as the Korean students here. I wish I could get a Filipino controlled robot to sub for my class next Thursday...

I am more worried about a webcam and filipino taking over my job then these silly robots. All they are is better programmed Teddy Ruxpins.

Learning a language is about interaction; not memorizing a soon to forget script. This silly robot program demonstrates the massive failure of Korea's English EDU. One that's been so since English EDU in Korea began (understand it's been about 20 years so far) and one they can't blame on the native teachers when they realize (or care to address) just how embarrassingly poorly they are doing with English. I put all to doing my job, but so few Korean students have much attention span and patience due to unhappiness from over schooling, lack of social interaction, lack of free time, and extreme exhaustion. Isn't it peculiar how the rest of the world learns and speaks well yet they don't put in the massive amounts of time and money Korea does?

Well said, AsiaESLbound.

I had a slight deja vu moment there because one of my students here from Saudi Arabia said the same thing last week regarding the Korean students in his class. I had to get after him for calling them "koreobots" saying he'd rather study in Pakistan with "imbecilic instructors" than learn how to tie his shoes in Korea.

Having spent nearly 4 years in Korea prior to this year, I was really embarassed for the four Korean students in my class even though they tried to brush it off like it was a joke. It's been very interesting (and difficult) working with Korean students here in the states who have learned under that type of system.
