I want to make my own Korean style BBQ at home here in the uk. Samgyeupsal or something would be awesome. It seems as if we mainly have just large joints of pork, chops or bacon and not much else in between. Anyone know what we call it here in the uk and should it be fairly easy to find from a butchers? |

if you're in or near London
then just go to New Malden near Kingston
that's Koreatown
everything will be there
including the restaurants
have a good time! |

In Cheltenham, so no where near a Korean shop. I was hoping I could just ask for a certain cut of meat or something. I can get everything else needed. |

If you're wanting Samgyupsal, then ask for Pork Belly from a butchers. I got it before in the US that way. That's the cut for Samgyupsal...I don't know what cut to get for galbi of another kind though. |

remember, that one of the things with some of these meats is that they're marinated in sauces. So just the cut of meat isn't enough to replicate it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galbi
as the article points out, galbi is specifically marinated short ribs. So if you want to make it, you'll need to get your hands on some Korean style marinade, but ask for short ribs, with a strip of thin meat left attached to it.
you could probably take them this picture to show what the cut looks like:

It's super easy to make Kalbi marinade. It's basically soy sauce, sugar, water, sesame oil, bit of honey and minced garlic and onion. Tons of recipes online. |
