I teach at a kindy. Why do other people in my school think its perfectly ok to barge into my classroom without excusing themselves and start talking. Today it was the cleaner (janitor?). I have a class of maybe 15 kids and they're all sitting on the floor watching me and listening. She opens the door and immediately starts speaking loudly, trying to find out who the owner of a pair of gloves that she found is. Other times, I'm in a classroom, and the homeroom teacher is there. Then another teacher will come in, and they'll start having a conversation, right while I'm teaching. It distracts the kids. Sometimes I just give them a look to try to quiet them (the teachers). Sometimes I have to ask them to be quiet, but that also further distracts the kids. Dealing with situations like the cleaner is futile. My boss also barges in on classes to talk to students. No one ever excuses themselves or tries to wait for an opportune time.

Thanks for letting me rant.

(BTW I work in a large kindergarten, about 15 Korean teachers in a stand-alone building).

5 years ago I would've sympathized. These days you sound like a control freak. Learn to let go and take things as they come, accept people for how they are, stop trying to change the world, especially as a migrant worker in an alien culture for a limited time. Laugh it off, see it for what it is: a minor bump on the road of life, a part of the dissonant, chaotic frenzy that makes up living overseas. But, don't mind me, I love jazz.

Complain to your director about it, these are disruptions to his business. If he doesn't do anything about it, then follow Louis VI's advice.

Teach them "5 little monkeys jumping on the bed" with hand motions. Whenever someone interrupts my class (usually to talk to my coteacher), I get my kids doing that (and they love to chant it LOUDLY) and there's no chance of having a conversation in the class. The kids are paying attention to me, even though it might not be related to the lesson, and my coteacher or whoever is forced to take the conversation outside.

Good idea, they already know the song and love it.
