I have a TESOL certificate. However, I'm noticing that the TESOL certificate for many teaching positions has to be "over 100 credit hours" in order to affect your salary level.
I received my TESOL from a major state university in the US. It is listed as requiring "18 credit hours of coursework" in graduate level classes. This is basically one year's worth. In addition, I had to complete a practicum (listed as 3 credit hours) which required me to acquire 75+ hours of teaching related experience.
So this business with the credit hours: is this just a question of semantics? What qualifies as a "credit hour" in this case? Shouldn't my degree qualify? |

| I think that what they're referring to as 100 "credit hours" are in fact 100 real hours (i.e. 6000 minutes). |

| I think if you add up all the hours spent in the classroom earning your TESOL certificate from the US university, it will come up to over 100 hours- if fact I think you'll be closer to 300 hours. You'll probably have to go through the extra effort of showing them that you sat in a college classroom for X hours a week for X semesters/quarters. Those 100 TESOL certificates are straight up 100 hours, typically done in like a 4 week period. |
