so, I woke up an hour ago to a freezing aparta. saw a blinking red let on the heater control and knew the heat and hot water were not working. every winter is the same so I knew what to do.
I took an electric heater to the hot water closet and set it up beside the pipes.
ten minutes later I had heat and hot water again.
now to take a hot shower and put a tshirt on and go play outside. |

The island sure ain't no Hawaii in winter, but there's at least no freezing here in Seogwipo. It was 7 C yesterday. That's downright balmy compared to the peninsula. |

Opposite thing happened to us. Our apartment has no cold water on one side of it, sink, shower, and toilet all useless. But the other side and the guest bathroom have both cold and hot water.
Oddly enough we heard a "crack" sound around 10am this morning coming from the apartment above us so perhaps it's building wide. |

Yeah it's because of frozen pipes right?
At least it is in our place. We've got to leave the tap running slightly overnight to prevent it freezing. If it does freeze it takes about half and hour with a hairdryer to get it going again. |

What if the boiler isn't in your apartment? My entire town has no water right now - no hot water, no cold, nothing (ondol works great, though!) anyway, it'll be two days tomorrow without water in my home (and all over this small fucking town). I wonder if maybe it's just us foreigners who lack running water, and we just need to find the boiler mechanism and thaw it.
So, where would I find a boiler? |
