|
|
Hi I'm looking to get the NHL Gamecenter Subscription. Anyone here know if it works in South Korea? Also are the games blackedout for 48 hours after the games finished? I want to be able to watch the archived games after I come home from work.
Thanks! |

I have had it for years, from even before it was called that (the ol' 'NHL centre ice online' days) and let me tell you it's fantastic and near complete coverage. The streams are great, the games live and for the last two seasons archived immediately. I come home from work guarranteed no one will tell me the score nor will I overhear the radio talk about the game, then click on and enjoy the games I want! I also don't work mornings so catch games live more often than not. There are games without coverage, about 2 or 3 out of 50+ games a week, and they are the Florida vs. Nashville, LA vs. Columbus games,... in other words, no one cares, really, marginal games.
Two years ago I bought my 47 inch flat screen tv and hooked the computer up to it and the NHL hockey games are crystal clear and it's utterly amazing. I told myself 'oh oh, this just might keep me from going back home for a few more years' if any hockey fans make it down to jeju, there's cold brew and a game on at my place, pretty much any day (no leafs, pens or kings fans please).
The fee is under two hundred bucks for everything, and the playoffs alone would be worth it, getting all the regular season games is a bonus. Last fall I spent a month travelling south east asia and saw no games but when I returned i watched archived games for two weeks and got caught up! |

I got it 2 years ago (not last season, the season before)
it was a terrible experience.
Prior to the all-star game, the games were wonderful. Every game 1200KBps. After the all-star game (during which time they ran a big promotion) I couldn't watch a game at 300KBps without it stuttering. I exchanged e-mails with them over 1 month during which they did all kinds of tests and finally laid the blame on some point between them and me. When asked about a refund, they stopped answering, but did take the time to automatically try to re-enroll me for the next season. Whenever I called their tech support, something about it made it sound like I was calling some guy running the whole operation out of his basement.
At the beginning of the next season I get an e-mail saying "For your convenience we're going to automatically renew your subscription. "
The subscription would be renewed 3 days before the season starts. For our convenience we could call a phone number to cancel our subscription. A phone number which had a recorded message saying it wouldn't be turned on until the season started. Which meant by the time we could use it, we'd be charged.
At the time I'd found a forum of gamecenter customers who were royally ticked off about it. through some searching I'd found one of their old forms that had their e-mail address on it. I e-mailed them, threatened legal action, and after awhile got an email saying "How did you find this e-mail address? we've removed you from the auto renewal".
they can rot. |

Sounds like they tried to be reasonable with you, Mr. Cross. And then you got pissy and threatened them. You didn't deserve that renewal. I would have cancelled on you too. Anyway, with all the free channels for hockey, who would be dumb enough to pay for it? |

Thanks for the info!
I work in the morning (public school) so can't watch the live games. So I need the archives feature. My internet conenction is a bit slow. Does that mean the archived games run slow as well, or just the live ones? I'm guessing that the it's just like watching a movie online, in that you can let the video load (buffering?) for a few minutes and then you just watch it.
That auto renewal feature sounds a little annoying, I'll just make sure to look out for that. |

Reading comprehension do you have it? I didn't want the auto renewal. Why would I want to pay $200 for a service that didn't work? They tried to renew me and a lot of other people without our consent. I only got pissy after their service stopped working for half the season and they stopped answering emails AND they tried to charge me $200 more to do it again to me. Their techsupport was terrible, slow, and when faced with being unable to provide service to a region they claimed to support through no fault of the user they stopped communicating |

I've been happy with the service. This is my second year.
You can opt out of the auto-renewal, and I have always found their tech support helpful. |

They may have updated things now and hopefully changed their tech support but at the end if the 08/09 season the only way to opt out was to call them which was only available after you'd been charged. You couldn't access your account off season and we only got emails in august or early sept saying oh hey we are going to auto renew you. Kudos to them if they've fixed things but that season soured me on it. |

Just subscribed to it. But am a little confused. Went to check the arhives, and the latest games they show are from October 23rd, but today's the 26th, well last games were on the 25th back in North America.
Is this always the case? Do I have to wait two days before I can watch the game. I know above you posted differently, but for your specific team can you watch the games the same day pretty much right after they've finished??? My team last played on Saturday (Leafs, don't hate me), but I wanted to see today if I could watch the Montreal/Phoenix highlights from last night's game. |

you should be able to watch highlights right away. full games for the season I had it took 2 or 3 days to be archived (another downside, it's hard to avoid a score for 2-3 days) |

You know the game menu on the top of the screen? You can scroll back through that for three days or so and get the games right there. AFTER three days, they go into the archive. |

I see what you're talking about with the scroll back feature. But for some reason, I see that only for a few seconds, then the screen quickly changes and I end up in the NHL Vault section where there's no scroll back feature. Just archived and classic games. I definetely signed up for the whole package. $159.00 US. |

yea if this is the case then it's not worth it. hard to believe they would make it this way though. I must be doing something wrong. Not paying $159 for highlights which I can get already for free |

Nevermind!! In the end I was always logging into the NHL Vault section, basically from google typed NHL Gamecenter live and it took me to the NHL Vault login page. but if I go from NHL.Com > Video > Live Game everything works fine.
This is great actually, will be great watch the game after work tomorrow. esp with no commercials or intermission.
Thanks for all your help, enjoy the season. |
