I'm on the 14th floor of an office tel. The cold water works great on all faucets, but no water comes out of any of the faucets when I switch to hot water.
Why is this, and how do I fix it? |

Pipes are probably frozen, but that's usually for smaller places, not big places like that.
Any scheduled maintenance? |

No scheduled maintenance from what I know of. It was like this yesterday. |

Same here~ On top floor of a 3 floor building, and my floor has no running water at all. Boiler is working for the floor heat, but no water from the kitchen or bathroom. |

I had the same problem over the weekend - floor heating and cold water working fine but no hot water - because part of the boiler for my apartment (located outside) had frozen over. You could just try to chip off the ice, assuming your problem is the same, but the safest bet is obviously to contact your super, building owner, school, etc. |

The exact same thing happened on Christmas day to us. We couldn't understand why the cold water was still on but there was no water flowing from the hot taps. We found out that evening when the pipes going into the hot water heater burst. |

Did you have to pay to get them fixed? |

No, the handy man in our building just came and replaced the pipe. Our friends weren't so lucky though and had to pay something like 60,000 Won to have a pipe replaced in their apartment. |

I went without hot water for a couple weeks when I first arrived. It was August, so it didn't matter. But it turns out I just needed to flip on the thermostat switch on the wall. |

I've been taking moderately cold showers for the past couple of months. I had the landlord come in and lo and behold, the water was hot when he tested it. The next day it was cold again. I get hot water only sporadically, usually in mid-afternoon. The landlord probably thinks I'm BS'ing him, but I have no incentive to lie about my situation. This blows. |

check the external water heater (boiler)
you may have to let some of the water out periodically
regardless of the season |

we had no hot water 2 days ago and thought the pipe froze over. it turns out it was our boiler that froze and not the pipes. our boiler is in an unheated room off the side of our apt. we keep a small space heater out there for it during the cold days.
when we called the plumber, he told us that before he'd even come to look at our pipes, we should try this remedy for the boiler and call him back if it didn't work. it did! he must be so sick of those calls |

Haha! When I first arrived the hot water in my shower didn't work. I tried hitting every button on my thermostat, I left it running, I got my boss to look at it and I was so irritated. It turned out the tap is fitted backwards, so when you turned on the hot water you got cold, when you turned it to cold you got hot water.
I'm an idiot |
