|
|
I'm in a bit of a pickle. I'm leaving for the Philippines in 3 weeks for a 12-day vacation. Problem is, my American Visa debit card is set to expire halfway through my trip. My bank says the new card has been sent to my mother, who will then send it to me. But I'm getting concerned that it may not arrive in time, or give me enough time to transfer money to that account (which I won't do unless I have the new card in hand).
So I need to look at some other options. Are pre-paid Visas available here? Has anyone gotten one or know where to get one? I assume Traveler's Checks are available at the bank, but would rather carry a card. |

12 days - <$1000.
10 pieces of paper in your pockets.
Just take cash.
Travelers checks are a pain in the azz to cash (except in a mall, major hotel or bank) and in most cases you will need to spend some time waiting while they "process" the transaction and exchange.
Oh, and unless you are staying in a major tourist spot or one of the big cities you are not likely to find very many places (other than the malls) that take plastic.
10 Ben Franklins and change them as necessary. They also get the best rates at the money changers.
You will also want to pick up about p10,000 at the airport in ICN before you go. Get the smallest bills you can (for taxi, hotel, etc).

Thanks tom, I'll take that under consideration. But even for just $1000 I'm not sure how comfortable I am carrying that around (or leaving it in my room).
I guess the bigger concern is not having plastic for emergencies, but pre-paid stuff won't solve that problem either. |
