I was wondering if anyone could clear something up for me. My hogwan closed at the end of December and merged with another hogwan (both run by the same company in a chain). This week I got a letter saying that I could switch jobs without advance permission with report (meaning that I can simply switch jobs since it's the same company). Our office girls took care of it for us since we could use a proxy to do so.
A few days ago we had to sign at the bottom of a page, which we were told was Criminal Background Check. Fine, no problem. I had mine done and appostiled last year before I came over in September so I'm assuming they still have it on file somewhere. Anyways, with the new regulations that came into effect January 1st, I was curious as to why I had to sign the CRC paper again. Are they just going to verify my one on file at the immigration office? Will I end up having to get a new one from the FBI now that the laws have changed (that takes months). I was pretty certain that Korean Immigration doesn't do the background checks on us and neither does our school. That would cost them a LOT of money (which is why we have to do it ourselves and get it notarized/appostiled). Does anyone have any thoughts on why I had to sign a new CRC paper? It just looked like some random paper with only a few sentences at the top and no official line to sign at the bottom. I'm going to get an FBI one later this year anyways to apply for a visa for another country so I wasn't sure if I should just get 2 of them done. Any info would be appreciated!!! |

| You are expecting logic. You are thinking since I have not left the country(Korea) I could not have committed a crime in my home country. Also you would think they would keep files. Once again you are expecting logic. Stop that. You are dealing with two illogical beasts - Koreans and Bureaucracy. If you are lucky they might give you a pass but they might not. Advice is start the process. Starting getting paperwork together. If you want to stay here that will be the price Good Luck. |

What you probably signed is a statement saying "I, Avalanche32, promise to get my nationwide CRC for the next time I renew my visa. I acknowledge that this is the law and will not complain about it because I have a whole year of notice to get it done."
Then, in one years time, when you go to renew and don't have a nationwide background check, they'll just kick you out because you signed the form saying you understood the law. |
