So I ran from my school and then got this email from the director saying that they had immigration record me as a criminal and that they are reporting me to Interpol as a criminal. I don't think that Interpol is going to be involved because honestly, this is not like some international crime I have committed. I owe the flight money still but that's it. I'm still in Korea and am leaving today. Will I have any trouble going through immigration at the airport? |

Why didn't you do it on the weekend? As for Interpol - what a load of cobblers! They've got their hands full tracking drug rings, murderers, perverts etc.
How did your boss get to communicate with you? I don't understand why you didn't leave before they worked out you weren't coming to work again. At Immigration just walk in as normal, go through the checks as normal, and do it early. And can you give us the name of your school? It doesn't matter now and hopefully we can spread the news of avoiding it. |

Most runners aren't prosecuted, or sent to jail or anything like that. The vast majority are sent to vacation camps in North Korea. 10 years flies by when you're having fun. |

Send him a nice response telling him that you've notified the prosecutor's office in his town and have reported him for violating the libel/slander law in Korea.

Interpol doesn't get involved unless a national government, not some put-out hagweon director, requests their involvement.

Whatever money you or even the boss thinks you owe, you have not stolen anything. It's a civil action and his remedy is to sue you. Immigration has nothing at all to do with it.
Hey, send him that e-mail from the airport!

I had to leave early so I could get some things taken care of at another embassy. I couldn't get any other time off, and once I made it out I thought I'd just go ahead and run then. It was stupid. So do you think I'll have any issues with immigration? What should I say if they start asking questions? Scared because my director seems particularly vindictive. The second I pass through immigration at the airport I'll post the name of the school. I should also add that I know for a fact other teachers have pulled runners from the school. Since I'm assuming they cancelledy visa, how many days do I have before I'm overstaying? Is it 10? If I can't get a flight out I might have to stay another day. |

Oh and I don't even owe the school the flight money. The recruiting agency paid and I haven't heard from them yet. |

He is blowing smoke up your azz.
You are not a criminal. All you did was quit your job.
You may owe airfare but chances are that your boss has a 10 day delay in paying your salary so he is covered anyway and you owe nothing.
Immigration won't care and won't stop you (hand in your ARC as you leave (canceling your visa) and you can find a new job at your convenience if that is your desire.
Sleep well, enjoy your flight.

I didnt even get an ARC yet. I wasn't there long enough. Yes, things were that bad. Lesson learned ( never ignore the hagwon blacklist!!) and I honestly don't care to ever come back to Korea. I just want to get out of here with no trouble. |

They can't touch you. Don't worry about it. If they tried anything then you could get them deep water for false imprisonment and kidnapping. |

Wow! Sounds like someone got punched in the face by culture shock. From reading your posts it seems like you saw a tiny, maybe dirty, apartment, a hectic workplace, had a mild seizure, asked yourself "What am I doing?" and ran.
I don't want to kick you while you're down but damn, you could have at least gave it a couple of months. |

They will have flagged your passport on the computer. If your boss has stated that there is a criminal complaint (eg you owe flight money/ deposit?) then you can and will be questioned by airport police. |

That's priceless So typical of a hagwon owner to throw "Interpol" out there. Interpol will only get involved with major crimes. I'm surprised that your hagwon owner didn't say he knew the mafia. They usually like to pull that card out since it is designed to intimidate. That is exactly what he is trying to do to you. You will have no problems at the airport. You quit your job. Nobody can force you teach English. You are not a slave. You will have no problems. Have a safe flight home! |

Oh no! What should I do then? I don't think that I have done anything criminal. But I wouldn't put it past my boss to lie about something. |
