Hi folks,
I have a C4 VISA valid for 90 days. My school wants me to work an extra month.
The 1345 Phone Help line says I can't extend past the 90-day mark, but I heard (yup hearsay ) immigration will let you extend up to 120 days. Can't get past 1345's gate-keeper though.
Could someone please let me know: can I extend a C4 visa by an extra few weeks without leaving the country?
Thanks in advance! |

You CANNOT.
A C4 is good for durations of 1-90 days. You cannot extend it beyond the 90 days. Registration (ARC) is required for stays of more than 90 days and registration is not possible on a C4.
Your options are:
a) apply for another C4 (do a visa run to Japan),
b) apply for an E-class visa (and do a visa run to Japan) or
c) do a fast out/in visa run to anywhere outside of Korea and work illegally for a month on your return.
DO NOT OVERSTAY YOUR C4 (not even by one day) or you will have problems leaving (detained, questioned, possibly fined (100k won) AND you will get a black mark in your immigration file that will complicate future employment in Korea (requiring a consular interview EVERY time you apply for a visa).

Excellent and very-detailed answer, as always, ttompatz. Thanks a million!
(Even though the result sucks for me ) |

Can't you get 1 month tourist stay after the C4 expires? I heard from some people, but I might be wrong.
Once I got 1 month extension on my 90 days tourist visa. Every website says it's close to impossible to extend a tourist visa further than 90 days, but I did.
You could try to visit the immigration and say you want to travel around in Korea, because you love the country, people and food, especially kimchi! Be sure to show a flight ticket with a leaving flight within 30 days after your C4 expires.
You won't be able to legally work though, but you wouldn't need to spend money on a visa run trip. I think it worths a try. If they say no, you can visit Japan |

That's good general advice. Unfortunately, in my case this time, avoiding the VISA run is the goal, since I sent away my diploma to my home country to get apostilled, so I don't have it in-hand right now. Plus, I've gotta work, and I'm not keen on doing it illegally, even for a couple of weeks |
