|
|
I've just received a letter from the Immigration service, giving information about changing or adding an employer to one's E2 visa. I've copied it below ( Verbatim, so excuse the grammar ) :
| Quote: |
[My Id number/details/photograph]
This notice is issued to the report subject who is allowed to change or add an employer without current advance permission but with report. It provides general information on the procedure to change or add an employer for the person mentioned above. Therefore this notice is not legally binding.
1. The aforesaid must report to jurisdictional immigration office concerning change or addition of employer within 15 days from the effective date of the new work condition. (Report may be done by proxy. There could be penalty for violation)
2. The aforesaid may change or add an employer within the scope of activities for authorized sojourn status. Said person must have the necessary qualifications for the desired activities as well as sufficient sojourn period.
3. In the event of the aforesaid either being dismissed by the employer or resigning during employment period for self-imputable reasons, a written consent of release from the employer shall be required. (Letter of release can be substituted by supporting document detailing evidence of unfair dismissal or layoff.)
4. In the event of dismissal or resignation during employment period, the aforesaid must be present at the jurisdictional immigration office within 30 days and get the sojourn period modified or sojourn status changed. (Otherwise the person is subject to departure within the 30 day time-frame, or else could be punished for violation.)
Please contact Immigration Contact Center (1345), visit our website (www.hikorea.go.kr) or consult the jurisdictional immigration office for more detail. |
Unless I'm mistaken, that looks like Immigration saying that you can now change employers within contract without needing to jump through any hoops - just get on with it and tell them within 15 days!
Also - a 'Supporting document detailing evidence of unfair dismissal' is acceptable in cases where a teacher is being screwed by their hagwon!
Good work Kimmi - some sensible ideas there. The last lot of changes made sense too in the long run, despite the short-term hassle, and by all accounts they're offering a grace period for renewals - I reckon there might be someone with their head screwed on the right way in charge up there now!
Anyone else got one of these letters, or am I just such a model waegukin citizen they've decided to give me special dispensation? |

| Can anyone confirm this? Also, does the 6-month probation period still apply? |

The letter I have doesn't mention anything about the 6-month rule at all... which is neither here nor there unfortunately, but being as it seems pretty clear on other things, I'd be tempted to take that as a hint that the 6-month thing may have been scrapped...
I'm very interested to hear if anyone else got one of these letters as well - I have no idea why I was sent one, I'd imagine if it's just for general information then many people should be getting them sooner or later... |

I also received the same notice today in the mail. It appears to me to be an overview of rules that appy to changing or adding an employer. I noticed that it does state, ''it provides general information on the procedure to change or add an employer for the person mentioned above'', so since many other people recieved this notice, perhaps it's just general information.
Would like to know if anyone else has found out additional information regarding this notice. |

Just wanted to update everyone concerned about this notice. I called immigration and was told that it is a general letter going out to everyone to show the current changes being made to change or add an employer.
Hope this helps everyone! |

| Could someone proficient in Korea please contact KImmi and get a definite answer about the 6-month rule? I'd ask my Korean friends but they're swamped with work until Seollal... And I obviously don't want to ask my Korean co-workers! |

Hats off to Kimmi then, they've made a good move here.
Does anyone know someone who works there? I'd be very interested to know where these sensible policy changes are coming from - I'd assume someone who has a good understanding of the issues foreigners face and has the brains to make sensible decisions has been promoted to a position of influence in the last year.
I'd love to know who it is, because I think it would be well worth writing a note of appreciation to them (or to their direct superior) - not brown-nosing, but giving credit where it's due. It certainly wouldn't do Waeguk-Kimmi relations any harm for them to receive some deserved praise once in a while. |
