so this is partly curiosity, but this partly has financial motivation:
my boss is asking me to do a visa run to japan. i want to object because i don't really want to spend my money on a boring trip to japan. she says since i am changing my visa from e-2 to e-1, i need to go out of the country.
is this strictly true? |

| i mean, is this strictly an immigration requirement. or is she running up a deadline with HER end of the paperwork. because if the latter is true, it seems i would like to know that. |

The score is, your boss is right. Can't be done in any other way.
I would do so at your own convenience. Not much difference or benefit at all with the E-1. Next holiday, go to Fukyoka , have some fun and get the paperwork started for a new visa.
That's all.

Yes, it is an immigration requirement and yes, you have to do it to change from E2 to E1.
