This is my second time to teach in a Hagwon that has just opened up, and I am disheartened by the students lack of English ability. Most of these kids have never had a foreign teacher and poor instruction in their schools. There was a teacher here who taught for a month before getting into trouble with immigration, and in that time i don't think he taught the students anything. One girl is almost through a phonics book, but still can't do her do her basic abc's. After only a month of only 3 classes a week one class is over half way through a let's go book. None of the kids can answer questions from previous units. This guys was supposed to have 5 years experience teaching in Korea, but apparently he really sucked. Now I have to go back and pick up all the slack and teach the students what he should have taught them. arrrrgh.

I'm only going to be at this hogwon for a short time so its kind of hard to get motivated to teach them well.

no disrespect intended, but if a teacher can't get motivated by teaching students who really, really need help, then....perhaps a vocational error?
it's the sick who need doctors, dude.

Hmm...my hagwon had a guy do some temporary teaching late last year who had '5+' years of experience. He didn't do shit either. I wonder if it's the same guy?
