Hello,

I was wondering if there are any current or former teachers who can comment on their experience with Yesra Kindercare/Wow English Centre on Geoje? I am looking at the job posting right now, so I haven't gone through the interview etc. because I was hoping to get some information about the school before I apply.

Also they are only offering 750,00 KRW for flight reimbursement, I already know that I will try to negotiate for my airfare upfront but I thought most jobs offered at least 1.2 million KRW for reimbursement? 750,000 KRW is not nearly enough money even if it is only one-way.

Thanks.

Yeah...

Don't they know people in North America have debts and can't readily fork over nearly 1000 dollars for a flight? And that we (some of us anyways) are also leaving a paying job to come there to teach and thus have to forgo our regular pay as well as settle into a new country. Also I am 6'5" so I would definitely need the leg room (and willing to pay a little extra for it).

So North Americans are the only people in the world with debts? Your school are only going to pay for economy anyway so it makes little difference to the leg room situation for you. What do you expect, first class?

I paid for my flight over here the very first time I came and I got it reimbursed. If you trust your school, then pay for the flight, if you don't then either negotiate that part or find another job.

You say you've only seen the job posted, why not wait until you've interviewed for the position before worrying about how to get here. Not all schools are out to rob you, I'm sure if you tell them the cost of the flight then they will pay for it, they've probably just picked what they think is a reasonable amount and written that down on the job details.

Also, I've never heard of the school, what part of geoje is it in?

The Irelands right, their not gonna give a damn about your debts, job height etc and why should they. You have some options, either tell them its not enough and you cannot get a ticket at that price and ask for more, tell them to book themselves if they can at this price or dont go there at all!

I've never heard of that hagwon and I've lived in Geoje a while, so perhaps they just dont know how much tickets are! Also as Ive never heard of it I cant really tell you anything just on name alone. Do you know where its located, if there are other foreign teachers etc?

Believe me Geoje isn't in anyway short of teachers and If you dont like the terms of the contract etc they will find someone who does easily enough. So if you really want it, don't proscrastinate to long as Ive know people to lose the job because of it.

If you can give anyother info, Ill be happy to help out.

I don't recall saying that people in North America are the only ones with debts... and I resent the implication. I suppose I was only considering the fact that the flight from North America to Korea is expensive and the widespread unemployment and borrowing following the financial crisis. I am sure the flight from Ireland, UK, South Africa, etc. is equally as expensive and that the world economic recession has hit everyone, everywhere, but how could I know as I don't live there...

Nevertheless, thank you for the constructive suggestions. As regards the height issue I am hoping that I will be taking care of my boarding pass and that I will be able to select a seat with more leg room and I anticipate paying for it MYSELF.

I have applied and I will ask them about paying the flight upfront or I will find somewhere else. But I don't like the fact that I can't find any information about this school... anywhere and it will be my first foray into Korea. So I would like to find out as much as possible about the school, but so far it seems that no one has heard of it. Perhaps it is a new school or newer school that has had vacancies just open up. Of course I will make sure that I can contact former/current teachers before I make any decision. Job description just lists Geoje Island.

I do know the school. My friend works there with is girlfriend. They are the ones that are actually hiring for the position, doing the interviews etc.

It's the one that advertises the car for use on weekends etc?

I can tell you this. The school are great to the two of them, they get mega bonuses all the time too. The school really wanted them to stay longer than their year and he wanted to stay too but his G.F is ready to move on after 4 years in Asia.

The school is in Okpo, not Gohyeon. I prefer Gohyeon but Okpo has a lot of bars catered for foreigners, same with the foreign markets and restaurants there too.

Alot of people have applied for that position (it's for couples only), I think he told me he was doing interviews during this week for it. I will be talking to him tomorrow at football (soccer) so I will ask him a bit more about it if you'd like.

You two would be the only foreigners in the school and my mates were the 1st two foreigners to work there. It's an entirely knidergarten only position too.

don't worry about the money for the flights, they'll pay the amount you need for it. I'm pretty sure my mates didn;t fly from the U.k or US, (where they are from) as they had been living in Japan and then travelling S.E Asia for a while so the school prob don;t know how much the flights cost.
