It's very common to change the title of a movie when it's released overseas. The American title is Captain America: The First Avenger so it's not a big change. |

Okay. Why can't the original title stand? The film is about Captain America! Nevermind, I can see a flame war coming. I'm gonna drink some Budweiser and crank up the Toby Keith. #@@@% all ya'll. |

Can't see why even the greasiest fanboy would get upset about this, it's not like they're changing the name of the character. |

I propose a new superhero. Captain Australia. He doesn't wear shoes, he is good at cooking sausages, has a cork-strewn hat, says things like "That criminal is about as welcome as a brown snake in a sleeping bag." and can't be arsed saving anyone at all. Now THERE'S a superhero. |

Yeah but they should... The previews look terrible with Chris Evans as C.A. |

It's only gonna happen in Russia, Ukraine, and South Korea. Based on market research, probably due to brand recognition. Seriously, people around the world aren't gonna skip this movie cuz it's called Captain America. |

As far as I'm aware there haven't been any trailers released (besides a teaser that shows nothing) so I dunno what you think you've seen. There'll be one showing during the Superbowl in the US though, so I guess that'll be online pretty quickly after that. |

I thought you meant the character's name, and I was going to comment on the stupidity inherent in that. Changing the film title is pretty standard practice to suit different markets. |

Captain America Title Change
Jan.24, 2011
The new Captain America movie will be losing its patriotic reference when its released in South Korea, Russia, and the Ukraine later this year.
After completing market research into brand recognition and cultural awareness, Marvel decided that Captain America: The First Avenger will be known simply as The First Avenger upon its international release.
Insiders tell The Los Angeles Times that the studio was overwhelmingly happy about the results of the research and were pleasantly surprised that the title wouldnt need to be changed in even more countries.
He wants to serve his country, but hes not this sort of jingoistic American flag-waver, says First Avenger director Joe Johnston. Hes just a good person. We make a point of that in the script: Dont change who you are once you go from Steve Rogers to this super-soldier; you have to stay who you are inside, thats really whats important more than your strength and everything. Itll be interesting and fun to put a different spin on the character and one that the fans are really going to appreciate the idea that this is not about America so much as it is about the spirit of doing the right thing. Its an international cast and an international story. Its about what makes America great and what make the rest of the world great too. |
