|
|
Recently got a F-2 visa.
I been working here for like 4 years.
I been married for like 3 months.
Why would they issue my visa on Jan. 25 2011 but have it end on Jan 13 2012?
That's shorter than an E-2
Any ideas?

First find the rule saying you get a year to arm yoursel and then go with a korean who can explain better to the immigration office and find out why. that would be what I would do. |

It's valid for 1 year from the date of application. Besides, is 2 weeks really that big a deal? When you go to renew, no problems. Seriously, don't sweat the small stuff. |

I have found they do it to everyone with an F2 visa. The best I can tell is that it is their way of preventing you from getting the F5 visa after having 2 F2 visas. When you finish your second F2 visa (that second one WILL be be for one full year), you will be 2 weeks short of what you need to qualify for the F5. You will either have to wait one more year, or you will have to come back to immigration two weeks later and pay for another visa in order to switch to the F5.
Like I said, it seems to be a way to make us wait 3 years for the F5 or pay for two visas within one month for the pleasure of getting an F5. I've never met anyone who got one full year with their first F2. In fact, some have been as short as 10 months, while other times the F2 is only a week or two short of a full year. |

Most people I have talked to got a two-year renewal for the F2. The second thing is that if you leave the country at any time during your F2, they count that against the two years. So it's not two years of issue, it's two years of residence. |

True dat. Mine was only 2 days short. I came back the following week, applied for my F-5 and had that 2 weeks later. |

Be grateful.
It used to be that you had to wait 5 years to even apply for an F5, and I've noticed that many new F5s never even had to take a Korean language test either.
Waaaaaaaaayyyyyyy easier now. |
