|
|
Hi all,
First post here. I've been looking into teaching in Korea for the past few months or so and have been dealing with an agency called Kim's Recruiting. The recruiter I'm working with is named Gabriel Park and I have spoken to him a few times on the phone. Sometime this week I am supposed to have a phone interview with a possible school to teach at. After doing some research and reading some bad stories about the hagwon's over there and such I'm having some second thoughts. Has anyone on here dealt with Kim's Recruiting before? Honestly, knowing the legitimacy of the agency would ease some of my concerns. Not too mention the growing political tension in the region! |

I guess not? Doesn't seem like a good sign. My recruiter Gabriel Park recently sent me an email detailing some of the contract information. I would be staying in Wonju city. Can anyone offer any information about Wonju City and more importantly Kim's Recruiting? |

Hey kp soso,
Afraid I don't have any information, but I will be in Wonju from March. Did you take the job in the end? |

I would not deal with them at all. I haven't dealt with them first-hand, but I have heard nothing but bad stories going back 10 years. Bad stories from good people=reason to be alarmed. |

I saw this post sometime ago, unfortunately I was unable to respond because Its taken me since October to actually get a valid username to start working, with that being said, maybe I can be of help.
Back in October, a buddy of mine told me about teaching in Korea, and it sounded like something I'd be interested in doing, so I began my search for a recruiter. I started with Craigslist (I know, I know...looking back on this, I could not have made a dumber move) Anyways, I saw someone who had posted about teaching in Korea here in East Tennessee. I applied for it...and about a week later I got a call from Gabriel Parks. Now, I will say this. Gabe was pretty helpful for the first couple weeks. He would return my calls and stayed in contact via email.
After about 3 weeks, he stopped responding to my questions, etc. About that time was when I found this board, and started having some doubts. I then retraced my steps, and soon discovered that Gabe Parks had posted the craigslist ad in basically every major U.S. city (with his personal email). This was when I realized I was being played by a recruiter (imagine that?) and that I was most likely one of god knows how many people were trying to get a job through Gabe.
Hope this helps. |

Was this recruiter previously run under some other name a couple of years ago? I use to hear a lot of bad things about them. I'd use a western based recruiter, if i were you. If you do have to use a Korean one, try to find one that is large and established (footprints, etc). |

If it's "Testimony Kim" and signs his e-mails with some kind of "God bless you" type thing, then it's a bad sign. Dude is crazy. |

This recruiter's name sounds familiar to something I heard from a friend down in Jeollanam. He said there was a recruiter who kept documents of foreigners and absconded after borrowing money or trying to borrow money which was never paid back.
The name Gabriel Park rings a bell. It might not be the same one and my friend only knew about it through a friend - he didn't experience it directly. Apparently that recruiter called foreign teachers begging for money and yes, he was a 'Christian' and also took money from church members. |
