And do they keep my passport while it is processing?
I know all about the process, and I have all the documents I need. However, I will have a window of about a month between my current job and my next one. I'd really like to hit Thailand or The Philippines or something during that time. It's so cheap I'll probably save money by taking a vacation... gotta love it.
I also am curious if I can apply for the transfer any old time. My last date, at least according to my release letter, is February 28th, but in actuality it is Monday. I would love to apply for this sometime this week and split for the warm weather as soon as February 8th or so.
Anyway, I'm just wondering if I can pull this off. Any help from someone who has done this recently would be most appreciated. |

It used to be the transfer and extension had to occur within 14 days of the transfer (or you would have to get a new visa).
I have been told (and cannot confirm by first hand account) that they now allow 30 days between old and new contracts with the transfer occurring in the last week of employment with the initial employer.
All that said, immigration DOES have the authority to go up to 60 days if circumstances warrant.
Best bet, to to Kimmi and see what they tell you (not by phone). This way you can return to the SAME person and the rules should be the same as you were told. (changing clerks can mean changing rules too).

Thanks. I thought a person at immigration told me the other day that the visa extension happens automatically or is done at the same time as the visa transfer... hope so, but if not, I have until September to do an extension, so I guess I'll be okay. |

The transfer is 60k won, the extension is 30k more (if you need one to complete the contract). The extension is NOT automatic (you actually have to tick the box on the top of the form (same for that you use for the transfer of employment)).

i'm changing jobs with the new school year in march, you can do the transfer a month out (i was at immig friday had all my paperwork ok'ed and told to come back tuesday). there is now NO CHARGE for changing employers all you have to pay is the 30k for the extension. last time i did it, it cost me 150k, now all it cost me (besides 2 trips to immig) is 30k, very nice!!! |

That's good news for sure. How easy is it to extend the visa at the same time that you transfer it? Can it be done in one visit? |

yup can be done on the same form, takes 20 minutes as long as you have the right paperwork, make sure you make an appointment online, it will save you a ton of waiting |

Ah... good call on the online appointment. Do you know what paperwork I need for the extension? I can't think of what I would need that isn't also part of the application for a transfer... |
