Hello,

After four years on the east coast, my wife and I moved over here to be closer to her family...just a few questions. BTW: we're living in a pretty industrial area about 10 minute taxi from Bupyeoung.

1. Anyone commute to Seoul? Is it a pain? I may take a bus to Seoul Station and subway from there.
2. Besides Bupyeoung, what are some other places to hang out? I prefer bars w/ pool tables, sports on TV, social atmosphere.
3. Any sports teams (soccer, basketball, baseball) that are easy to be a part of? Foreign or Korean teams.
4. The city is so spread out...what are some nice areas just to walk around, eat good food, etc. I'm tired of walking my dog or strolling w/ my daughter and avoiding garbage!! lol.

1. If you live near the 1 line, it can take between 30 and 45 minutes to get to Yongsan station. It takes me about 40 minutes.

2. Art Center is nice, and there are department stores.

3. Incheon has a football/soccer team.

4. Bupyeong has varied restaurants (a couple of Indian ones), and Art Center has some nice Italian places.

If you go to Art Center, downstairs in Shinsegae, there are 2 bakeries. One of them starts with a D. That one has great whole grain bread. There's also a wine shop down there that has imported, good cheese, though it's pricey (17,000 won for a wedge of Brie, but it's nice Brie, and not Homeplus, bland stuff).

Check out the fish market. It's where a lof of Seoul gets its fresh seafood. Also, at door 3, there's an old lady (Hulmoni [grandma] is what everyone calls her) that makes great kimchi. The sailors buy it from her, and she's been selling it for decades. Try the yulmu kimchi if you're a fan. She sells out daily.

Incheon is a big place. It already has Line 1 and the Incheon Line 1. They are adding more Incheon subway lines.

For bars outside of Buypyeong, Gyesan-dong has Wild Bill's No. 10, which has a pool table, jukebox, darts, etc. Lots of waygooks. The previously mentioned Arts Center/Bus Terminal area also has a few decent bars, though someone else will have to help you with the names.

Nearby Bucheon has Rhythm and Booze (pool table) and The Park.

Not a ton of nature but some places worth checking out are Gyeyang Mountain and (at least in the warmer months) the Wolmido boardwalk.

I dated a broad that lived in Incheon so I spent quite a bit of time out there.

I doubt your area will be "industrial" as you think- you aren't living in DongIncheon (way more than a 10 min cab ride to Bupyeong)

Anyway, Bucheon is great. Gimpo's Ganghwa Islands are a nice summer retreat and its not too far.

thanks for the information. i'm acually about five minutes south of seo-gu. there are quite a bit of factories around....a large indonesian population...and not much in terms of aesthetics!! lol. unfortunately, i think my closest subway is either to drive to bupyeoung or dong-am. anyone else in the area i'm in??

Ouch! I used to live in Seogu so the best bet for a subway is the airport line (perhaps?)

I used to live in Incheon, and had to visit Ganghwa while passing through Gimpo- via bus. My mistake

i have one helluva commute on my hands!! I can take the bus (#1000) into seoul (today it took 40 minutes to Hapjeong), then it's another ride on the subway across town.

anyone take the bus in during rush hour in the morning between 6:30 and 7:30? is it pretty good on time?

also- in terms of sports- what i meant to ask was if there were any teams to play with during the weekends and/or any men's leagues?

think i'll check out bupyeong tomorrow night. thanks again for all the info people.
