I came across my work place being blacklisted by a previous employee. Interesting.

E-Bo Young Talking Club hagwon in Bakdal dong, Anyang is a horrible new hagwon with an inexperienced owner/principal(Sherry Park or So Yeon park) who cheated me every chance she got. The list of all the times she mistreated/cheated me is too long to include everything. My apartment was pretty much a dirty hole in the wall down a dark alleyway. My toilet didnt even work :-[ . Furthermore, my contract stated that I would have 10 days paid vacation. My boss claimed that the recruiter added that into my contract without her knowledge. Therefore, I wasnt entitled to any days vacation so I had to go to the head office, and they made her give me 5 days paid vacation. Better than nothing I guess. She made me move apartments three times so she could find a better deal. The school was closed because of the swine flu breakout for one week which we had to make up on weekends. So we worked three weekends in a row. That was ! 20 days straight. Furthermore, in my contract it said she would count my teaching hours by minutes, so if I taught a 50 minute class she would not count it as an hour like most schools. So I was contracted to work 120 hours per month. At that rate I had to be at school more than 10 hours every single day teaching 8/9 classes per day just to reach overtime hours. Which never happened. I also had to do phone teaching which was a big waste of my time. I had to call every single student and listen to them read for 5 minutes once a month. I had more than 80 students! I am not one of those teachers who just had a bad life in Korea and is blaming it all on their school/boss. I love Korea, and Ive been there multiple times and will go back asap. But, I will not be teaching at an EBY school again. Especially the one in Bakdal. Please take my advice and dont even consider this school an option. There are way too many great schools out there for you to waste your time working 9 hour! s a day for a prejudice penny pinching dictator.

I think blacklists should be taken lightly. I never had to work saturdays, I got paid properly by the actual hour, on time. 6 classes a day (8 now but shorter in duration ((and not me personally, as explained below))) and although it started off with no breaks, I'm now starting at 5pm and finishing at 9 on M/W/F, and I start at 5 and finish at 7 on Tues/Thurs.
True they're making me do light work so I re-contract with them, but still (For future people finishing up, see if you can get super treatment at the change of you re-signing.)

Apartment is better than anyone else's I've visited so far. Big, roomy, 3 minute walk away from work. Phone teaching, sure but I just make it fun.

Really relaxed, stress free environment as long as you stay on their good side.

The only bad thing is simply the lack of professionalism - if she doesn't like you, she'll give you a hard time.

Don't take blacklists so seriously, is all I'm suggesting. Find everything out yourself through the job and so forth.

As you have alluded to golbotron - if your boss doesn't like you - she will make your life hard. I have also read on one of your previous posts that some of your colleagues wanted to leave. It doesn't sound too clever.

It sounds like she likes you, you sound like a chap who doesn't raise a stink if they are getting maltreated but some people can't stand by and have some idiot maltreat them. They are the ones who will feel the wrath of Sherry Park-Super Adjumma. I would last a week there I think.

I know but then you could just do it right back to them.

Sometimes people feel differently when they get a dose of thier own medicine.

I figure after I leave the place, I'll show the woman that black list thing, and tell her a thing or two, from my experiences there which simply is not on.

After I get my money, of course. It's the least I can do for the future foreigners that risk being cheated because they aren't handsome enough or whatever her motive is.

Just weird because me, and another guy there who finished the contract felt no kind of threat or concern in the job. Complete stability.
Weird to think it's completely different for everyone else there.

Yeah I got mine. Albeit 6 days (10 including weekends).
If I stay on I get five more... so one more than standard.

But after the recent shenanigans I won't be staying. As illogical as it sounds, I don't appreciate the preferential treatment I get over others. She gives me clothing, doughnuts, daily foods and cakes etc.

But it's a secret, only me. Nobody else can know.

Also, she patted my arse today 'by mistake'.

So, our work night out was just appreciation? in that she made sure she was sitting next to me at every point of the night, holding my hand whenever she spoke to me, of which content consisted of 'why are you so handsome' 'what will i do when you go? I will not be able to sleep without your handsome face'
Making my hand pour drinks, staring at me shyly as if infatuated as I eat?

I mean I'm sure it could be a cultural thing but it's one I haven't come across here so far, and it's something I wanna keep away from...
