The dogs were under the control of Howling Dog Tours, which cared for and managed the dogs for tour operator Outdoor Adventures. Outdoor Adventures has said it only had a financial stake in Howling Dog until it took complete control of the company in May 2010, but has insisted it had nothing to do with the decision to cull the animals.

On Monday, the British Columbia SPCA announced it was investigating the mass slaughter and would recommend to Crown prosecutors that charges be laid.

Outdoors Adventures Whistler said the incident is tragic and regrettable, and a new policy has been put in place to ensure all dogs are euthanized at a veterinarian's office.

The company also said it has implemented a neutering program for all male dogs to mitigate unwanted pregnancies in the pack.

This is just terrible - Using these dogs for economic gain and then slaughtering them when the season winds down. Many were outraged at Korea burying animals alive that were sick and this is on par with the Canadian case here.

Even "euthanizing" them at veterinarian's offices poses ethical problems. In fact, a veterinarian was originally consulted prior to killing the dogs and the veterinarian said he refused to kill so many healthy animals and walked away.

Now the kid accused of shooting or slitting the throats of all of these nice dogs want's compensation from the Government for some sort of post-traumatic stress syndrome.

Man, only in Canada. I'd love to see tourists boycott this business because of this. It's horrific that they did this to them and not even take the time to try and find homes for them or give them away to people. I'm sure a lot of people would have taken them.

Disgusting, barbaric, . I hope the owners of this company will do a good stretch in prison. This was just sick! Use the dogs to make money then slaughter them.
