My contract is finished in two months and I would like to move on to another job, but my hagwon said that they were told by the recruiter that they can't find a replacement in time so they need me to stay. I really like my boss and my hagwon, so I would feel bad leaving them without a teacher if they can't find one, but I really need to leave.

I would just insist that I have to go, but I don't want to do anything to jeopardize my severance money. I don't think they would refuse to pay it, but I don't want to take any chances. I know a few people who were burned. However, I don't even know if I can stay since I'm american and I don't have the FBI check. Any advice?

Also, anyone who wants to work at an awesome Hagwon and can start on or before March 29th let me know. I love my job here, but I found a position in another country that I really want to move to.

You are joking about the "awesome Hagwon" part, right? Here on Dave's, one can never be too sure.

Unless you told them you were going to extend and then changed your mind they have known for a year when you will leave. These days there are a lot of applicants, and even with the extra paperwork a school should be able to get a replacement here with two months notice, unless the pay or conditions are really bad at the school or something?

The hagwon really is very nice. My boss is one of the coolest Koreans I have met. I honestly love going to work. I really would like to stay here for a long time, but I found another job and need to start at it on March 30th.

I think my boss has only ever used one recruiter and this recruiter is saying it takes 3 months to get a new person because of the FBI check. I think my hagwon has always only had American teachers and I think they would prefer another american teacher because the students are used to the accent. Many of my students have been going to this same academy for 4+ years.

For those who are interested in taking this job: It's in Gimhae (The Paris of Gyoungsangnam-do). It's a "smaller" city of only 500,000 and about 20 kilometers from Busan. There is a huge community of English teachers here and a lot to do. I work about 26 hours a week and have very few responsibilities outside of teaching. Vacation is normal 10 days + 10 national. Pay is 2.2 million. Let me know if you have any other questions.

My schedule has been almost exactly the same for the entire year. I don't know what intensives are so I don't think I have that. I've never had to work on a weekend or holiday. It's mostly Elementary and Middle school. There are 3 kindergarten students and 2 soon to be high school students. If I send you a PM can you receive it? I don't want to put my email address on a public forum.

They don't like Hungarians very much and I think they really dislike paprika.

Three months for Yank? Tell 'em to hire an Aussie. 2-3 weeks for the check. Problem solved. Stopped buying shares in your hagwon, dude. Seriously, though, your hard sell is....well, totally not believable.

I love my job, but I gotta leave it. Really?

My first job here 7 years ago was a hagwon. It really was pretty great. I was the only foreigner there. I worked 2-8 or sometimes 9pm M-F (I had to be there at 2 but didn't start working until 3 and only had maybe 20 teaching hours per week) I was always paid on time including severence. The school had a kitchen where I got free dinner every night.

The manager was a very lovely older lady. She was always asking (through a translator) if I needed anything and if all is well. I stayed for 2 years and then the school went bankrupt. I think the neighborhood was just too poor. Plus there were alot of church English centers nearby that were low balling us. I think there can be great hagwons out there but they are few and far between.

My school (while not a hagwon) got a teacher in like 2 weeks. Just get one that is currently in the country.
