Does anybody tether their smartphone to their computer and use it as a modem. If so, how do you find it? Reliability? Speed? Ok for video/movies?

With unlimited data plans available, i was thinking i could possibly ditch the internet to subsidise a nice new sp. |

no.. 3G speeds are not great to rely on all the time.

It's really not a terribly good idea. |

I've tethered my laptop to my HTC Desire. Speed and reliability were decent enough for email and basic surfing, but I didn't feel like it was adequate for streaming or large file transfers.

YMMV with a different location and phone. |

Everyone I've ever known who has tethered (myself included) says the exact same thing. |

				| be careful with the term "unlimited." There is likely a fair-use clause somewhere in there...the last thing u need is to stream movies like a mofo and have to pay 2,000,000w because your gf wanted to watch her korean dramas... |

				| it also drains battery life like crazy, so it seems like it'd be hard on the phone to set it up for near-constant use. |

Quite right ... you could avoid this by plugging the phone into the wall, but then you'd be better off with a fixed-line connection for the reasons mentioned above. |
