Does anyone know the name of, or can give directions to that solicitors in Milton Keynes that'll do the notarising for a tenner?
all my searches come up with a bunch of different solicitors and no prices on their sites. |

Hi,
just to clarify for you - a solicitor cannot notarise, all they can do is certify your photocopy as a genuine copy. this is typically charged at 5 or 10 by any solicitor (i paid 5, in leeds. though i know i london its more like 30!)
for your CRB however, you will need to get the original document notarised. That needs to be done a Notary Public - which is basically a glorified solicitor, and will charge you about 80 (thats what i paid in leeds). A solicitor cannot touch an original document.
I dont know where a Notary Public in MK will be, your best bet would be just to google "notary public milton keynes" and go to the cheapest one you can find. there will probably only be one or two in the city (leeds has 2)
I know that doesnt answsert your post, but i just wanted to make sure you were clear on that becuase I got really confused when i was doing it, got into bit of a pickle before i worked it all out! |

| There's a solisitors next to the FCO that will certify your copy for a fiver. Go to the FCO after and you can get the degree notarised for about 28. |

| It's worth going to MK and getting it all done in person, took me less than 90 minutes after stepping off the train. I had my documents notarised for a fiver each, just picked a random firm near the FCO, then took them round to the FCO to be apostilled. |

Actually, that all depends on where you live. Technically speaking, all solicitors in Scotland, for example, are notary publics so all solicitors in Scotland can notarise a photocopy as a genuine copy.
Notarising the CRB check should cost exactly the same as a degree copy. If you got charged 80 quid then you were ripped off. Any solicitor or notary public that actually understands the process involved in getting a visa will charge 10 quid or thereabouts. Of course, you need to find a solicitor who isn't a complete moron that understands the process and be able to do it. |

There's one next door to the FCO. I mean its literally 50 yards from the door you enter to get your apostille. They charge something like 10 pound for the solicitors stamp and 20 for notarisation by a public notary. |

In North America a lawyer can relatively easily be approved as a notary. In the UK a notary does not have to be a lawyer. There is actually a separate specialized program they attend which many notaries (particularly in London) use to justify their ridiculously high prices. |

| Disclosure Scotland do it for free. If there's still time you could call them to see if the resident notary can sign it for you. |

From what I recall I only certitified my degree copy. I may have certified my Subject Access too, but I don't think I had to do that to get the appostille. I did both of these in December (2010) and this week I got my visa number sent from Korea. I didn't have to deal with a public notary at all, which I'm very grateful for
I rang local solicitors to get quotes for certification, I think I only paid a tenner. Needless to say, it is worth your time ringing around to save 5 or 10 quid
I'm about 95% sure I only certified the degree copy. When I rang the FCO they told me a Subject Access doesn't need to be certified to get the appostille. But ring the FCO to confirm this because I'm not 100% (I was dashing about getting everything together and I don't remember exactly what I did)
So bear in mind a notary in the US is not the same as a UK notary. It is my understanding a US notary is equivalent to a UK certification. Also I believe Korean immigration only care about the appostille and aren't at all interested what you had to do to obtain the appostille. I hope my ramblings have been useful |
