Summer is coming and it's almost time to get out of the seven independent metropolitan areas of Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Incheon, Gwangju, Daejeon, and Ulsan.

How many of the nine provinces have you visited? (rather than just drove through)

Here's a map:

http://www.land.go.kr/english/map/map_01.jsp

I've visited only three provinces if we don't include rapid transportation between metropolises.

I have three more on my to-do list for this year: Gangwon-do for the Korean Thanksgiving holiday of Chusok because I want to travel up the scenic East coast in the fall when the leaves begin to change colour; Jeju-do for my summer holiday because I want to swim, snorkle and maybe scuba the waters;and Gyeongsang buk-do for some long weekend (unspecified) because of the ruins and hiking around Gyeongju.

For me I think the last province I'll ever visit, if ever, will be Gyeonggi-do because Seoul and Incheon are the only destinations on my travel list from that region of the country, and neither city is actually part of the province.

I haven't really done much in the Jeolla area, Gyeongsangnamdo and I havent' been to Jeju yet. Gangwondo is wonderful, lived and travelled a bit in the Chungcheong area, and recently moved to Gyonggi-do..

Van Islander- you might wanna consider the Yellow Sea islands off the coast of Incheon, though they might be somewhat similar to Geoje.

What do you want to do in Incheon?

Aren't the terms Chungchongnam and Chungchongbuk a little misleading? Shouldn't they be Chungchongseo and Chungchongdong?

I think the names are based on the locations of the capital cities. Cheong ju- chungcheong buk, is north of Daejeon- Chungcheongnam

Isn't Daejon one of the independent cities?

I've heard about the Yellow islands and may check them out some day. How's the air quality? When is it best to go?

And there's so many islands on my islands list, including Bogildo near Wando in Jeolla nam-do and Ulleungdo in Gangwon-do.

Edit the poll. I've been to all of them.

No, it's in Chungnam. Chungnam National University is in Daejeon.

Yes, as stated in the link. Just as Busan and Ulsan are not technically part of Gyeongsangnam-do, despite what the Lonely Planet states. Makes for a great trivia question: What is the largest city of Gyeongsang nam-do? Busan? nrrr Ulsan? nrrr Changwon? ding-ding!
