Why? Is it because of the cars/scooters so they dont go overly fast, or something similar?
They have them at crosswalks and in front of some buildings even!
Why??

Okay, but how do those strips actually aid blind people?

They can feel the difference in texture with their feet or cane. There are ones that have little rectangles and form a path, especially in the subway stations, so that the blind people know which way to go. The ones with circles at crosswalks and other deadly places signify when to stop, so that they don't die in a horrible accident.

Those strips are a kind of Braille. Look closely at (or, better yet, close your eyes and step on) the strips. You'll notice that there are different tyupes of tiles. Some of the tiles have bumps and others have lines. This is to inform the blind person of direction of travel or upcoming hazards.

Ah yes, the yellow raised strips are to help the blind navigate the extensively huge subway and pedestrian areas. I find it convenient to walk the center yellow lines, because this is where you have the fewest collisions with oncoming pedestrians constantly changing direction as if they were blind and confused. It's good the country system accommodates the disabled, but I never seen any wheelchairs of any sort other than one old man uses an electric scooter with a Tweetie bird cage mounted on it so his bird friend goes everywhere he goes. I notice the blind people are on subway trains begging.

Can someone tell me why it was necessary to mod edit this thread?

I didn't see an edit. I saw a mod answering a question. Are mods not allowed to contribute to conversations?

They're starting to get these outside of Korea. I've seen them in Toronto and Halifax already.

A few replies in this thread have been deleted. Pretty innocuous replies too.....in a pretty innocuous thread. Strange modding.

I find that on icy days, those yellow walking paths aren't as slippery. (Especially when going up or down a hill.)

Ah, I see.

A lot of threads/posts have been disappearing as of late. One of my threads disappeared, another guy's thread disappeared, posts are disappearing. There is never an explanation either. I've also heard of people getting banned from Dave's without so much as an explanation as to why. One guy that I work with had his account banned and now no one can access Dave's at work because they blocked the IP (despite it being a public network).

Moral of the story, the mods are generally silent but they rule these boards with an iron fist. Watch what you say. Also, you might just get banned for rubbing someone the wrong way.

(...and watch this reply disappear). Razz
